This super-fun Colombian wedding filled with colour, laughter and love. Bride Katherine tells all…
How did Daniel propose?
“We went to Prague on the 27th November 2018 a beautiful place to get engaged! I had high expectations of it happening during this weekend, but it didn’t. When we got back to England, he insisted on going out to have something to eat in a lovely restaurant in Chester, but I was not very keen on the idea as I was a little tired. I was having a shower while being constantly reminded to hurry up! When I got out of the shower, he was on his knee with the most beautiful ring emerald and diamond ring. I was over the moon full of joy and tears. It turned out that he had planned to propose to me in Prague but had brought the wrong box, which had no ring in and he spent the whole weekend worried that he had somehow lost it!”
What dress did you wear?
“The wedding dress was a bespoke creation by Alexander Rojas Moreno. Alexander is a good friend of the family. I went to Colombia over
Christmas 2018 he took all my measurements and we designed my dress. Finally, my dress was finished – elegant, princess, sparkling beaded dress with beautiful embroidery, pearls and an open back.”
And the accessories?
“I wore shoes by Jorge Ramirez, a tiara by – Alexander Rojas and Ivory & Co earrings and bracelet.”
What did Daniel wear?
“Bespoke lightweight ivory trousers checked waistcoat with a gold back and a white cotton shirt with blush detailing.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“We decided that I will not get involved with the men’s suits. I wanted a surprise on our big day. When I saw him, I thought he looked very handsome. I felt very lucky and full of joy. I couldn’t stop smiling I was so happy.”
Who were your bridesmaids and where were their dresses from?
“I had two bridesmaids Luly & Xime and one amazing Maid of Honour called Johana. They wore a Blush Pink dress from a small shop in Colombia.”
What was your theme?
“It was an elegant, classic and romantic wedding decorated with flowers, chandeliers and foliage on the ceiling. Elegant tables with candelabra, gold plates, a stunning 4 tier floral cake with two delightful flavours passionfruit, orange and almond created Elsy Salgado de Figueroa. The colours were gold, blush pink and some delicate touches of blue. We trawled the internet finding inspiration and shaping it into our own vision.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“The whole ceremony from the moment I entered to the time we left the church as husband and wife. The procession from the church to the venue surrounded by traditional dancers and musicians was magical, winding our way through the streets with onlookers clapping and wishing us well. Also, when we walked into the venue for the first time and saw our vision realised was incredible. In addition to our big day the ‘crazy hour’ and fireworks made the day unique for us and for international guests who had never experienced a Colombian wedding.”
What was your best buy?
“Seed paper wedding invitations: cost effective and guests can plant them rather than throwing them in the bin.”
What’s your saving tip?
“Working as team is very important, however, let the bride be in control of the money and spreadsheet!
Look for the best prices and try to get any deal or something extra from the suppliers. Be cheeky when you’re negotiating.”
