We adore this sophisticated wedding in high summer. Real bride Sophie shares the details…
How did Joe propose?
“Eight months after having our little boy, Teddie, Joe proposed to me in a local park in their sensory garden. It was the perfect setting on a summer’s day of 1st July 2017. Joe being a shy and quiet man, the whole proposal was a massive shock because I always thought he would do it at home in private.”
What dress did you wear?
“I bought my dress from Just For You Bridal in Bristol. I originally bought the dress back in May 2018 having already lost five stone, but never did I think before my wedding I would lose another three! I collected my dress and made an appointment with Liza, the owner of Cherry’s Alternations in Kingswood, Bristol, where she got to work straight away. I decided to add a belt and had diamantés added to the shoulders. It was lovely to know that a dress that is so traditional was now made and personalised to my taste and no one else would ever have a dress exactly the same as mine.”
And the accessories?
“My tiara was borrowed from my older sister. My bridal shoes were from Monsoon, and my earrings and bracelet were from Debenhams.”
How did you feel when you saw Joe up the aisle?
“In the build up to the wedding I was so nervous. I’m usually a really emotional person so I thought I would blubber all the way down the aisle and during our vows, but as soon as the music started all that fear went. As soon as I saw Joe at the end of the aisle I couldn’t stop smiling – this was the moment I had always been waiting for.”
Who were your bridesmaids and where were their dresses from?
“With a massive bridal party of 13 containing close friends and family, it was difficult to find a dress to suit all. I then came across multiway dresses from La Closet De Chanel – they were perfect! I wanted my maid of honour in a different dress, and her gown was purchased from Goddiva.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“We hired singing waiters from Silver Service Singers. It was by far the highlight of my day. They are what my guests still talk about now! They got everyone together and kick-started the party. A moment to remember.”
