An absolutely stunning wedding set in beautiful Tuscany. Real bride Charlotte tells her story…
How did Bobbie propose?
“My husband asked me to marry him in the most romantic way! He let me fly to Paris under the guise of work. I had been in contact with the relevant ‘fake’ client several times by email. She wanted to go through a few things the night before the start of the assignment in a bar/restaurant called Hotel Costes. But we had a severe storm in Amsterdam that day. As a result of this, my flight was terribly delayed. I was in contact with the ‘client’ via text message and email and they said that they would be in the restaurant anyway. When I arrived at the airport in Paris I quickly changed my clothes, it was already around half past eleven, but luckily the ‘customer’ was still bubbling in the relevant restaurant. I raced to the restaurant, where my husband was sitting on arrival in a nice suit. He had staged the entire assignment, there was no work the next day. Upon entering I was perplexed, so he let me sit down at a table and gave me a glass of wine. A few minutes later he asked me to marry him. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I was so lucky!”
What dress did you wear?
“My dress is from Justin Alexander. At first I found it very difficult to find a dress. I always tended to gravitate towards a more classic dress, but the fact that we were going to get married in Italy made my choice more difficult. I didn’t want a heavy, warm dress, but I did want to steal the show. When I put on this dress, after fitting and looking at many dresses, I immediately knew this was it! I had tears in my eyes and it felt amazing. The entire dress is covered with lace. The back is a true eye-catcher. It is slender cut to the hip with a small spout to the trail.”
And the accessories?
“I opted for less is more. Given the lace in my dress, I also opted for a long veil of more than 4 metres, also from Justin Alexander. At the bottom are hand-woven flowers with diamond stones. I wore diamond pendants in my ears and a rose gold bracelet.”
What did Bobbie wear?
“My husband wore a tailor made suit from the store Pakkend Amsterdam, and from the brand Drago Lanificio in Biella. It was a three-piece and made from a mulled Italian fabric. The trousers and jacket were in the sand colours. The waistcoat
was in a Bordeaux red checked fabric. Under this he wore a white clean shirt. The tie was from the brand Gallieni and was in the colour brown-red with light dots. His loafers in woven light brown leather were from ASOS.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“I was nervous and overwhelmed at the same time. You look forward to the moment for so long. Especially in our situation; our friends helped with the decoration, making the flowers, you name it… So we were busy decorating and organising everything days before. This makes it extra exciting but intense at the same time. The sense of togetherness was incredible. We truly celebrated the love and happiness we have found in each other and in our friends. During the wedding we had an Italian live band. Before my attendance they sang an acoustic song from Prince ‘I would die 4 U’. This is my favourite artist and the acoustic version gave everyone goosebumps.”
Who were your bridesmaids?
“Our daughter Liv and my niece Isabel were the bridesmaids. They both wore lace dresses with pink lilies on their arms. Before my walk down the aisle, they scattered pink lily leaves together.”
What was your theme?
“Our theme was Mediterranean chic. We love the earth colours like olive and sand, but with a vintage touch. All products and decorations were from the region. No big bells and whistles. More cosy, Italian and natural. The area is very beautiful in itself. We also kept it very Mediterranean and vintage in terms of table decorations.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“Our highlight of the day was saying our vows, and the big ‘yes!’. A very good friend of ours, Zeger, married us in the side garden of the Villa. Here you have a beautiful view over the olive grove. We had asked five friends to tell something personal about us. How they met us, what nice hilarious things they have experienced with us in the past and how they feel about our friendship together now. There was a lot of laughter and tears, too. When our friend finally asked us if we agreed to marry each other, everyone was emotional, enthusiastic and moved.”
What was your best buy?
“Our rings are definitely the best purchase. My grandmother is very special to me. She was like a second mother to
me. Unfortunately she could not be there. From her jewellery that I inherited, we had our wedding rings made in the beautiful colour rose gold. That way she is always with us both.”
