These childhood sweethearts had the most perfect day with plenty of DIY wedding details. Bride Elisha reveals all…
How did you and your partner meet?
A mutual friend’s band were playing in a pub when Jonny was 15 and I was 16. We both went to see the show and the rest is history!
How did Jonny propose?
In Paris next to the river with a view of the Eiffel Tower.
Tell us about your wedding gown and how you chose it:
It was big and fluffy! I knew Jonny wanted to see me in something big and princess-like so I tried a few and that was everyone’s favourite.
What sort of style did you envision for your wedding day?
White and rustic.
How did you come to choose the location and venue?
We saw an advert on Facebook for their open day – went along, loved it and secured our date less than 2 weeks after our engagement.
Describe the cake and cake topper:
It was four tiers, alternating vanilla and chocolate sponge. Two layers in icing, two layers roughly iced in white chocolate ganache (amazing!). The topper was a Lego bride and groom with bunting.
What flowers did you use in the bouquet and at the venue?
I can’t remember for the life of me what they were called! But there was lots of baby’s breath.
How did you choose your table décor?
I looked for inspiration online and went with log slices, jam jars, lanterns and as many tealight holders as they’d let me have.
What was the menu for the reception?
Chicken liver pate, chicken in white wine sauce and sticky toffee pudding
What were your favourite moments from the day?
Seeing how emotional Jonny and the family were. When the formal bit was over and we could relax and enjoy the day
Name your wedding soundtrack:
Aisle song – Piano version by Nazarene Aversa of ‘I don’t want to miss a thing’ by Aerosmith.
Exit song – ‘are you gonna be my girl’ by Jet (we danced to this song on the night we met).
First dance song – ‘rule the world’ by Take That.
Any DIY décor elements?
All DIY! I cross stitched all of the place names, stamped all of the menus and the table plan, and put together the favours.
What was the biggest splurge of the day?
The band! They were a Bon Jovi cover band who we’ve seen a few times and they are amazing.
How did you save on costs?
By doing the centerpieces, table plan, favours, menus and place names ourselves
In hindsight, anything you would have done differently?
I forgot to throw my bouquet! Get someone to remember these things for you.
Where did you go on honeymoon?
Mexico Beloved Playa Mujeres (the most amazing place).
Any tips that you can give to future brides?
Make sure your hair will last the day – mine had to be redone after the meal.
If you could sum up your wedding in one sentence, how would you describe it?
