A beautiful barn celebration filled with colour and joy. Real bride Katie shares her fun wedding with us…
How did Aaron propose?
“We’re both Londoners but in 2011 we swapped the bustling city for the sandy shores of Sydney, Australia. It was in July 2015, during one of our visits home to Blighty that he completely blew me away with the surprise engagement. He suggested we visit the Greenwich markets one day, which I thought was a nice idea. We chose to walk the scenic path through Greenwich park on a beautifully sunny day. As a keen photographer, Aaron asked me to stand for a photo looking out across the famous London skyline, and I thought nothing of it. Sneakily he took out the ring while I was looking out over the city and told me he had the photo he wanted. On turning around I found him on bended knee with the most stunning engagement ring in his hands!”
What dress did you wear?
“I popped into a small independent dress maker, Collezione Santina, in Sydney that I regularly walk past, to see if they made wedding dresses. To my delight the seamstress Santina was exactly who I was looking for. Her ideas were fresh and original and she spent two hours drawing my design free hand as I described my ideas. After countless appointments, it was perfected. A one-off piece that only I could wear.”
And the accessories?
“I’m not a girl who wears many accessories and with the dress detailing, I was able to go simple. My shoes were made to order from Shoes of Prey. Aaron also bought me a gorgeous pair of sparkly earrings as a wedding gift.”
What did Aaron wear?
“Aaron visited a few different suit makers before finding Shirt Bar. He also wanted to celebrate his Irish heritage and found a great company (Orwell & Brown) to supply Donegal Tweed for his bow tie and handkerchief as well as the groomsmen’s ties.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“Like all my wishes had come true and I was living my dreams. Bursting with excitement, I couldn’t stop smiling and was overcome with joy.”
Who were your bridesmaids and where were their dresses from?
“My sister Vicki and my friend Jess. Vicki lives in New Zealand and Jess lives in England. With me in
Australia you can imagine trying bridesmaid dresses could have been quite the task. Thankfully ASOS delivers globally!”
What was your theme?
“Our main theme was travels. We met while travelling and have chosen to travel as much as possible in the last ten years together. We used fun and iconic photos of us in memorable places for the table plan and table names.”
