All over colour
For the last several years, muted tones have served as the colour palette of choice at weddings—expect this to change in 2019. We predict the coming year will feature bold and rich hues, with brides favoring saturated blooms to give their wedding a festive feel.
Brightly coloured peonies and ranunculus will likely be the flowers of choice during warm spring months, while dahlias in dramatic hues are expected to reign from late summer into early fall. Statement flowers like these offer plenty of depth when tucked into textures of foliage … they also require fewer blooms to make an impact.
Another option for elevating a space is adding painted foliage such as plumose ferns in vivid colors. This provides a dramatic effect, especially when dangling from a ceiling or woven through a floral design.
Creative scenery
It’s all about making memories that last—especially with the advent of social media where photos go on to live indefinitely. As brides focus on creating these Instagrammable moments for guests to photograph, we’re seeing their attention shift from floral walls to playful vignettes that add colour and whimsy to their big day.
Global inspiration
From safari-themed rehearsal dinners to the kaleidoscope of colours found in Indian celebrations, many brides are drawing inspiration from their culture or travels around the world. Guests can look forward to being transported to the couple’s favorite destinations, wherever they may be.
Whimsical woodlands
A canopy of greenery looks lush during the day and dramatic at night—it also looks as though this trend isn’t going anywhere. Cascading textures intricately woven throughout the ceiling of a tent are complemented by the addition of hanging lanterns, offering a dreamy ambiance similar to that of dining under the stars.
Preserved florals
At first thought, dried flowers may not seem like the most romantic addition to wedding décor. However, as flowers dry, their shape and structure are transformed. These ornamental changes offer a unique and beautiful way to enhance event décor, especially during autumn months when textures are more abundant.
A perfect example of this is pampas grass: a feathery plant that makes for a showy display when gathered into a bunch. Pampas grass is a lovely option for a rustic setting and can also be made to feel glamorous when paired with the appropriate vase.
Organic, asymmetric designs
We’re seeing less of symmetrical centerpieces and more of perfectly unproportioned designs.
Asymmetrical shapes featuring organic vines, berries, branches, and even ornamental objects are fast replacing the impeccably balanced pieces of the past. The final result is a design that feels grown in place rather than installed.
Bold bouquets
More and more brides are opting for bouquets that feel unique in both style and flower choice. This year, we expect to see more texture than ever before with wild seasonal elements that mimic the beauty of the natural world.
This design style is loose and organic as if the textures were freshly gathered right from the garden.
Floral hair accessories
A delicate floral accessory offers a touch of glamour to any bride’s aesthetic, as well as a connection to her bouquet.
With floral crowns already a thing of the past, we’re predicting beautiful embellishments like floral combs and barrettes will become even more popular, especially as more brides select updos for their big day. Of course, these accessories also look beautiful with hair worn down, and even better when the veil comes off for a reception.
