A lovely traditional celebration with a stunning marquee reception. Bride Jenny tells us all about her dreamy wedding in Hampshire…
How did Jack propose?
“It was at the top of St Catherine’s Hill in Winchester. He proposed with a fake ring and told me we were heading to Brighton to pick out my real ring. I’d always wanted to pick out a ring together so this was perfect!”
What dress did you wear?
“I knew I wanted something timeless and classic and I wanted something that reflected my own style. I had seen Sass & Grace Bridal in Winchester stocked this particular Ellis Bridals dress so I booked an appointment to specifically try it on. The moment I did I knew it was the one, it felt like the dress I had always imagined myself wearing. A couple of people at the wedding asked if I had the dress custom made – which is always a good sign!”
And the accessories?
“I kept it quite simple with a veil from Sass & Grace, drop pearl earrings from Lido Pearls (John Lewis), and I wore my mother’s sapphire engagement ring. I was really tempted to buy a pair of satin Jimmy Choo shoes, but I was persuaded by my mother and her friends that I would just ruin them, so I found a similar style from Rainbow Club. Their shoes are made specifically with brides in mind so they have amazing padding inside to help keep you going all day.”
What did the groom wear?
“Jack had a made-to-measure three-piece suit from Gieves & Hawkes in Winchester. He had a number of consultations with the tailors to decide what colour, cloth and design would work best for him, and he went back for fittings throughout the process.”
Who were your bridesmaids and where were their dresses from?
“I had three grown up bridesmaids – my sister Claire, and friends Katie and Tamara, with three little bridesmaids and a page boy. I always knew I wanted the older bridesmaids in Ghost dresses. I just love the understated glamour of the design and pastel shades.”
What was your theme?
“Traditional English country garden. Our venue was a blank canvas so we picked a cream draped marquee and kept decoration to floral displays from our florist Janet Kirk. Outside we went for a garden party feel with croquet and badminton set out on the lawn. Music also played a big part in our day. We hired a string quartet for the church, a jazz pianist for our drinks reception, and a great band in the evening.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“Just after the ceremony with all our friends and family throwing confetti and waving as Jack drove us to the reception. It was so special to be on our own for a moment taking everything in together.”
