Real bride Amy shares her gorgeous summer wedding in Kent and explains that the best purchase is something that money can’t buy: the memories
How did John propose?
“It was the evening of a family get-together between Christmas and New Year at my parents’ house. I was told to follow the arrows placed around the house by my niece and nephew to meet John outside… The garden was decorated in fairy lights and candles and there John was, waiting for me (in a Christmas jumper!), down on one knee. I was also wearing a Christmas jumper at the time, in my mum’s Crocs! I burst into tears… And then said yes!”
What dress did you wear?
“I wore a gown called Zabel by St Patrick, which came from Fross Bridal, Uckfield.”
And the accessories?
“A pair of sparkly Swarovski earrings from my mum, and a Tiffany bracelet with a pink heart (to match my bridesmaids) from John.”
What did John wear?
“John wore a traditional black tuxedo – he looked like James Bond!”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“A very happy and extremely lucky bride.”
Who were your bridesmaids?
“My sister Abi was my maid of honour, and my five oldest and best friends, Emily, Daisy, Phoebe, Nat and Emma were my bridesmaids.”
What was your theme?
“We didn’t really have a ‘theme’ as such, but our dream was to have a lovely summer wedding, with a very relaxed atmosphere – which is what we got!”
What was the highlight of your day?
“The speeches! This was the one part of the day where I didn’t have any involvement, so this all was a complete surprise. Despite being nervous, my groom did an amazing job and the best man completely pulled it out of the bag with an original surprise video.”
What was your best buy? “Our photographers! As lovely as all the other things are, the photos are the one thing you’ll have forever. A set of photos that capture all those amazing moments, for you to look back on in years to come, are worth every penny.”
What’s your saving tip?
“Prioritise what’s important to you. Don’t spend money on things just because you feel you should.”
