So many beautiful details completed this inspirational spring wedding in Devon. Bride Sarah shares her story…
How did Steven propose?
“Steven booked a trip to New York for my 30th birthday and we went for a wander around Central Park on our first night. At sunset we approached a quiet lake and he got down on one knee… He had hidden the ring in his backpack and was terrified I’d find it so wanted to get it out of the way early into our trip! It was a complete surprise and a really magical moment. We then phoned our families to share the news and went for drinks to celebrate.”
What dress did you wear and where did you buy it?
“My dress was called Delores by White Rose, and I bought it from the lovely team at The Bridal Box in Torquay. I tried on lots of different styles in various shops and found it difficult to decide, but the dress I chose felt like ‘me’ when I put it on. It was so comfortable and elegant. I loved the lace detail and the low back with the buttons that ran all the way down to the bottom. The team at The Bridal Box customised it for me just as I wanted, and they added a beautiful sparkly belt to it, which added an extra touch of glamour. “
And the accessories?
“I wanted to keep my accessories simple, so the details of the dress really stood out. I wore some gorgeous metallic open-toe Rainbow Club shoes (which, happily, were really comfortable all day!), and a delicate silver and pearl wire hair piece that I also bought from The Bridal Box. I chose some Ivory & Co teardrop earrings as well as a matching bracelet and these really brought out the sparkle of the belt on my dress.”
What did Steven wear?
“Steven wore a navy blue French Connection suit from Moss Bros and some dark brown Ted Baker shoes. He wanted to make the most of the excuse to buy a good quality suit that he could wear more than once, so decided to buy instead of hiring. He teamed it with a matching waistcoat and a tie from Swagger & Swoon, which matched perfectly with the colour of the bridesmaid dresses. The best man, ushers and dads also wore navy suits and colour-matched ties, but they had grey waistcoats, instead.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“Walking down the aisle was the part of the day that I was most nervous about – I knew all eyes would be on me! However, seeing Steven standing there at the end really put me at ease. I was worried that I’d be really emotional walking in, but thankfully I managed to hold it together. I think that the excitement of seeing all our loved ones in the church took over. It was a really special moment seeing him for the first time, and of course, having my dad by my side to support me.”
Who were your bridesmaids and what did they wear?
“I had five bridesmaids, made up of three of my closest friends and my two sister-in-laws. I got their dresses from ASOS and was so pleased with them. Great value, and also really good quality and a fantastic range of colour options and sizes. Three of my bridesmaids were pregnant on the wedding day, but ASOS did the style of dress I had chosen in maternity sizes!”
What was your theme?
“Pinterest was my best friend when trying to choose a wedding theme. I started with colour schemes and looking at flowers I liked, then ideas built from there and a theme naturally emerged. We had a spring wedding and we wanted to make the most of beautiful flowers that are around at that time of year. Our overall theme was a bit of a mix of different things we liked: a rustic, English country garden style, with a bit of glamour thrown in, too. It was lovely and very satisfying to see all the things we’d chosen come together on the day in such a wonderful way.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“We loved every moment of the day from start to finish, but we enjoyed taking a step back from the day together in the early evening and watching our guests enjoying themselves. It was so lovely to see everyone we love in one place having so much fun. We really recommend having some alone-time together during the day so you can really take the day in – it goes so fast and with so many people to see and talk to – it’s easy not to spend much time with your new husband/wife, otherwise!”
