If you’re searching for your dream Norfolk wedding venue, take note! The historic Worsted Estate is being transformed into the setting for a luxurious new venue…
A former Georgian woodyard is being transformed into a stunning new Norfolk wedding venue. The Worstead estate, boasting an ancient barn and pretty walled garden, is being given a new lease of life by brothers Gavin, Alex and Bruce Paterson. The three farmers have been given the go-ahead by the local council and supported by an EU Rural Development Programme Grant made by the Broads Local Action Group.
Farming in Norfolk since the 1930’s, the Paterson family were renowned for their dairy heard winning virtually every top honour for dairy cattle at prestigious shows for the best part of six decades. More recently, the herd was sold at auction as the business became more focussed on arable, Angus and Wagyu beef cattle, renewable energy and property on the estate.
The gorgeous new venue will consist of a ceremony room and a beautiful thatched barn. Able to host up to 110 guests for the reception, the impressive barn conversion has been designed by architect Rebecca Deane from The Rural Architect. There will also be bar areas, kitchens and toilet facilities, as well as an attractive outdoor area incorporating the walled garden, raised decking and restored pathways through meadow leading down to the lake, boathouse and lake island.
The first wedding reception, following a marriage ceremony at a local church, will be held at the end of this month in a marquee in the walled garden near the estate lake, with the full venue scheduled to be ready for its first licensed wedding ceremonies next summer.
Bruce Paterson said: “As well as returning a redundant building to economic use, it will create employment, bring money into the local economy and save a beautiful heritage asset – the park and associated 18th century buildings – from dilapidation. It is about regenerating a traditional part of the park in a contemporary way that is sensitive to its heritage.”
If you love the sound of holding your wedding at Worstead Park, the venue is hosting an invitation-only taster event on August 26th to showcase the new venue. The event will feature local florists, caterers, entertainment, wedding planners and other wedding service providers, on hand to offer help and advice.
