Caroline and Steve Mulley celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a fabulous vow renewal in the same place they had exchanged their first ‘I do’, in popular Paphos, Cyprus.
On 18th of June 2018, Steve and Caroline Mulley celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a special vow renewal at the Leonardo Plaza Cypria Maris Beach Hotel & Spa, Paphos, Cyprus.
Caroline describes their celebration as the ‘most amazing day’. Whatever her expectations, she felt the day exceeded them in every way possible and all she would love to do, is do it all over again!
“When you get married the first time it is exciting and nerve racking, and you don’t know how things will pan out. But 25 years later, we both appreciate each other more, all the things that we’ve achieved we have done together, so when we renewed our vows and looked into each other’s eyes, we knew why we loved each other as much as we do,” says Caroline.
Originally both Steve and Caroline were born and raised in Bradford and bought their first home in Selby, but now live in Todmorden, a market town and civil parish in the Upper Calder Valley in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, England . They moved to Todmorden 18 months ago and their 24 year old daughter Alexis has moved into their original home in Selby, Yorkshire!
They decided 25 years ago to get married in Cyprus as they had both lost parents and felt that a small registry office wedding away from Yorkshire and their home would suit them best. They knew they didn’t want to fly to the Caribbean nor to be one of many couples getting married on a beach. So they opted for Paphos Cyprus where the Mayor himself performed the civil wedding ceremony in the then Town Hall of Paphos, and it was the only wedding of the day! Her sister Tanya and husband Neil had been present at their original wedding and also flew out to Paphos for the renewal of vows.
For their 2018 celebrations, Caroline wore a stunning fuchsia dress from Ted Baker and shoes from Dune. A special silver bracelet on her left wrist was Steve’s gift to her for this special silver wedding anniversary. Steve wore a Ralph Lauren shirt and that was Caroline’s suggestion, but the best part is that he had no idea about the vow renewal! And that meant ‘quite some planning’ for Caroline and her daughter Alexis. When he was told on the Friday evening, the surprise on Steve’s face was just hilarious and he literally fell out of his chair and Alexis had to say “get up Dad, it’s really happening”. Alexis organised the perfect cake topper with “25 years, we still do”.
Steve had been very ill and in 2016 he had a triple heart bypass and they went through some terrifying times as a family.
Contacting Mathilde Robert at Planet Weddings, who had organised their first wedding, was the beginning of a magical journey and a great deal of fun deciding what they would do to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary and surprise Steve.
Caroline and Steve could not get over the emotion of the day and how truly special it was for them and their nearest and dearest. They both wanted to mention that Cypriot generosity had been felt from start to finish
The happy couple say: “We renewed our vows in the place that we got married, 25 years ago and the most amazing day – one we will never forget.
