Perfect for brides and bridesmaids, we go bananarama for this brilliant bridal hair tutorial with the spotlight on the Markle-inspired banana bun…
This do-it-yourself bridal hair tutorial will guarantee the perfect up-do for you and the girls. We take advice from the very lovely Sarah (a bridal hair aficionado if ever there was one)…
Step 1 – Add some texture to your hair
As this style involves a lot of pinning, it’s important to use product so the grips have enough texture to cling onto. Do this by misting the TONI&GUY Tousled Texture Creation Hairspray all over and scrunching sections of the hair with your hands to give the hair lots of grip and texture. Plus this look is all about that Markle inspired, messy finish.
Step 2 – Divide and conquer
Split the hair vertically into three sections using your fingers or a comb, ensuring they are evenly sized to ensure a full and voluminous banana bun.
Step 3 – Create a low ponytail
Form the basis of the bun by tying the middle section of hair into a low ponytail at the base of the neck. Use a clear hairband if possible but don’t worry if you don’t have one to hand as the next step will cover the hairband.
Step 4 – Do the twist.
Take the right section of loose hair and begin twisting the sections inwards while wrapping it over and under the base of the middle ponytail, covering the hairband as promised. Repeat this process on the left section of hair and leaving a loose small section of hair at the end.
5 – Create your bun
Use a couple of pins to secure the upper part of the twist, forming the basis of your bun. Next, flip the hair sticking out of the bun inwards towards the ‘back’ of the style and pin into place, loosely. Make sure the bun is more of a cylinder shape and pull any areas to loosen them if needed. Here you can decide just how undone or polished you want your banana bun to be.
6 – Frame your face
Remove a few face framing strands from the bun to give the look even more of an messy yet sleek feel. Leave them hanging loose, tuck behind your ear or curl them for added romance.
7 – Secure the style in place
Keep all your hard work in place with a spritz of the TONI&GUY Tousled Texture Creation Hairspray. It’s lightweight enough to keep the hair from looking too stiff, but also long-wearing, keeping your style budge-proof all day.
And that’s all there is to it, you’ve now mastered the Meghan Markle-inspired banana bun. Bravo!
