A stress-free and fun-for-all real wedding theme made this a stunning day in South Yorkshire. Bride Kerry explains why she went for champagne over white…
How did Johnathon propose?
“We were on holiday in Spain. In our villa one evening, Johnathon called me upstairs where he was waiting outside on the balcony with lit tea lights spelling out “Will you marry me?”. It was quite windy and he’d been up there a while trying to light them!”
What dress did you wear?
“I wanted something slim-fitting and lacey and I found my perfect dress by Allure at Hoops a Daisy in Wakefield. I felt so comfortable in the champagne sample – it suited my pale skin tone.”
And the accessories?
“I went for some champagne Jimmy Choos (I hope to wear them again)! I also wore a small pearl hair clip and pearl earrings that I found online.”
What did the groom wear?
“Johnathon wore a Ted Baker suit from Moss Bros. He chose all the details (the buttons, the cut) and he had our wedding date embroidered into the inside lining. Our son wore a matching Ted Baker suit – they both looked so smart!”
Who were your bridesmaids and where were their dresses from?
“My sister was my chief bridesmaid, then I had two of my best friends’ little girls as a bridesmaid and flowergirl. Their dresses were ordered online, picked by my sister in colours to match the wedding theme.”
What was your theme?
“Stress-free and fun for all. As well as our son, we had invited young children to the wedding, so we wanted to make it fun for them. We had a Haribo ice cream cart and a large sweet table. That said, I also wanted a rustic look with fairy lights and beautiful blooms. We had help from family, friends, Millie’s Floral Boutique and venue stylist Cover in Style to make the place look wonderful.”
What was your best buy?
“Tough to say! It would be between getting our venue, our photographer, and our florist. They made the whole experience relaxed and enjoyable.”
What’s your saving tip?
“Don’t add another layer to the cake! At the end I nearly went silly, adding unnecessary costs that no one would even notice. When buying things, think, ‘will this make a difference to the enjoyment of our day?’ With that thought, the cake lost a layer, but there was still plenty.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“When, unprompted, our son came up to the side of the dance floor and wanted to be a part of our first dance. His big smile completed the day perfectly for us as a family, surrounded by all the people that we love.”
