Soft, muted colours framed a dazzling day in this beautiful Bath real wedding with gin bottles, bargain hunting and paragliders! Bride Jess tells us more…
How did Matt propose?
“We were visiting my family in Bilbao, Spain. We walked up to the cliffs one evening and sat watching the paragliders overhead and Matt got down on one knee. Of course I said yes! Then we realised that the paragliders had witnessed the whole thing and were cheering and clapping!”
What dress did you wear and where did you buy it?
“I wore Joy by Charlotte Balbier: an A-line dress with a tulle skirt and illusion neckline. I bought it from a small boutique in Newbury called Mrs. Jones. It was the first dress that I felt comfortable with – I knew I wouldn’t be worrying about my figure on the day.”
And the accessories?
“I wore a pair of pearl earrings that Matt had bought me for my birthday from a lovely jeweller in Bath called The Silver Shop. I borrowed my sister’s veil – it had a lace lining and matched my dress, too!”
What did Matt wear?
“Matt wore a royal blue three-piece suit from Charles Tyrwhitt with a sky-blue tie with a matching monogrammed pocket square. He also wore tan brogues from Jones.”
Who were your bridesmaids and where were their dresses from?
“My three sisters were my bridesmaids, while my maid of honour was one of my oldest friends from school, Lauren. They looked so pretty and elegant in their dresses, which came from ASOS. I spent more time searching for their dresses than my own!”
What was your theme?
“We went for soft colours – pale blues, greys, purples and white. We’re both gin drinkers so we collected bottles from friends and local pubs to use as vases for the flowers. They looked great! The venue had so much character that we didn’t need to decorate much. We kept it simple with flowers and some lights in the evening.”
What was your best buy?
“Matt’s a bargain-hunter and he found an easel and frame to display the seating plan. He sanded it down to give it a more natural look. It all came to about £25!”
What was the highlight of your day?
“The wedding ceremony. I’ve never felt so emotional, partaking in such a big commitment to each other – especially in front of all of our friends and family. We put so much thought into the hymns and the readings; they all had significance to us and incorporated family who couldn’t be with us. The chapel was stunning and the perfect weather only added to the setting. It’s the memory that makes me happiest in amongst so many wonderful moments.”
