In delightful durham and an enchanted castle, no less, bride Francesca shares with us her magical and fairytale real wedding (with a surprise dress win from Love Our Wedding!…)
How did Sie propose?
“His proposal didn’t quite go to plan, due to him needing a drink or two to gain some courage! We were in Milan and his plan was to propose in front of a beautiful cathedral. However, he ended up doing it in the hotel room, because he couldn’t wait until the next evening!”
What dress did you wear?
“I actually won my dress in a Love Our Wedding competition! I couldn’t believe it – I got to choose any dress worth up to £2,000 from the amazing Modeca collection. I picked their Sydney dress and I got it from Destiny, a fabulous bridal boutique
And the accessories?
“I wore a Liza Designs veil and a Warren York floral crown hairband (both from Destiny). My necklace came from Ernest Jones – it was a wedding morning present from Sie. My rose bracelet was a gift from my dad and came from Debenhams.
My shoes were from Badgley Mischka.”
What did Sie wear?
“He wore the Jaspe slim-fit suit in grey from Burton, teamed with a pair of brown shoes from Littlewoods.”
Who were your bridesmaids and where were their dresses from?
“A combination of family and friends – one of my aunties, my cousin, Sie’s sister, my brother’s girlfriend and one of my friends. They wore multiway dresses from Debenhams, which I managed to get in the sale at half the price!”
What was your theme?
“Beauty and the Beast. We are a family of event and wedding planners, so we took on a completely empty venue (Lambton Castle) and made it our dream ‘enchanted’ wedding. It featured a lot of plants, flowers (especially roses), wood and quirky props, such as a throne outside, an ‘alive’ wonky grandfather clock and lots of hanging vines and candelabras. We made all of the floating rose centrepieces ourselves. We wanted it to be magical, beautiful and different, whilst remaining tasteful. All of the props and décor from our wedding are now available to hire from my mum’s company – I love that our hard work in making and sourcing these things has resulted in them now being available for other couples’ weddings.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“Watching my son walk down the aisle to us with our rings in a silver rose. His shoes had given him bad blisters before even arriving at the venue – he was very upset – but before I walked down the aisle, he said to me, ‘I will put my shoes back on, walk with the rings for you and Daddy, and do a big smile.’ He wiped the tears from his face and I was a very proud mummy!”
