It’s Mother’s Day! We celebrate our gorgeous mums the swingin’ sixties way… with a heavenly hit of flower power for mother of the brides!
Last weekend, over a cup of tea and a glass of Prosecco (Mum’s was the Prosecco… it’s the only thing she’ll drink), my gorgeous mother was telling me for the first time about her summer in San Francisco as a sixteen year old. The year was 1969 and it was the summer of love. Mum was rockin’ the boho flower-power look; all mini skirted up, flowers in her hair, and nothing on her feet. Oh, and she went and had her belly button pierced. I sat and listened in stunned silence as my own twelve-tear-old daughter listened in with sheer delight and an unmistakeable, ‘Jan is so much cooler than you, Mum’ look on her face. She is, actually. And in the spirit of celebrating all mothers of the brides of whatever generation, we take inspiration from Jan’s heyday and showcase three fabulously floral looks for marvellous mothers…
The Lady in Red
Muted and demure she is not. And thank goodness. This fierce outfit in post-box red is just the ticket for mums who like to make a statement. Bang on trend in a Bardot-style neckline, this decorative floral print can be seen for miles! A classically elegant silhouette and nipped-in waist keeps this look stylish, and the below-elbow sleeves makes this a season-savvy choice. Perfect for mega-watt mums!
The Vision in Blue
Applique daisies across this very sixties-inspired long jacket adds a distinctly Jackie O look. The baby-blue is the perfect shade for Spring, and the embroidered dress underneath keeps this simple shift dress interesting.
The Statement Maxi
Flower power packs a punch in this dazzling gown! Perfect for a beach wedding or a wedding abroad, this floaty number features frills a-plenty and a thigh-high split as well as a fabulous toucan design. Team with silver strappy stilettos or take a leaf out of Jan’s book and dance the night away bare footed! You can find more fabulous dresses from Issa here!
