With twenty-five days to go until Christmas, we celebrate the most romantic things to do with the one you love in our Christmas countdown…
The weather may have taken a distinctly wintry turn outside but keep things ramped up to hot hot hot with the one you love and combine the countdown to your big day with our romantic Christmas countdown! We love these heart-meltingly romantic ideas to covey how much you love one another… there’s one for each day of the month!
1 Advent Calendar
Let the countdown to Christmas begin! We love the romance of sharing 48 baby truffles with the one you love, £26 from hotelchocolat.com
2. Visit a Christmas market together
We’ll always have a soft spot for the magical Bath Christmas markets (open until December 10th). Stroll hand in hand through the candlelit Georgian streets and the stunning Abbey courtyard; a glass of mulled wine in one hand and your gorgeous husband-to-be in the other. And whilst you’re there, check out these fabulous hand-made leather bound books from Bath Leather Goods (bathleathergoods.com) in the Guildhall Market – you can get them engraved with your bridesmaids’ and groomsmen’s initials for the perfect thank-you present!
3. Take a run together
I promise you this is glorious. Especially if it’s cold. There’ll be a frisson of excitement in the air between you and then you get to share a hot chocolate as a reward!
4. Book a couple’s massage
Particularly wonderful if this month you’ve both been working hard on the organisation and wedding planning.
5. Put love notes in each other’s pockets
Glorious tokens of love and shared secrets to be discovered whilst you’re at work!
6. Take a road trip
Spontaneity rules here! Let the romance sweep you both away and head wherever the road takes you…
7. Learn three cute phrases in a foreign language
Set each other this little challenge to be delivered over a candlelit meal. (Ps Italian and Spanish languages work beautifully here!)
8. Lie in!
Pick a Sunday and declare it a duvet day! Snuggle all day long and watch Love Actually on repeat…
9. Choose your wedding songs
Hours of endless fun, and you know, you have to play them and sing along too…
10. Practise kissing
Well, it’s research isn’t it? You’ve got to get the right kiss for the big day…
11. Write a love letter
Ah, the forgotten art. And when was the last time you did this by the way? There’s something wonderful about a hand-written note from the one you love. Cherish them forever.
12. Go dancing
Think a dinner and a show and then, go slow-dancing somewhere fancy!
13. Take him shopping
Spoil him rotten and shower him with attention.
14. Arrange a surprise candlelit dinner
Ok, ok, so we’re guessing it’s not going to be on the beach in December but you get the picture… Make a pact that you will each throw a surprise dinner for the other this month at some point.
15. Choose your wedding readings
Works beautifully with sumptuous red wine, a rip-roaring fire and some soft, background music. Read selected poems aloud to each other…
16. Make your stationery together
Perfect if you’re the creative, artsy type, this is bound to be a bonding experience and it gets an extra ‘to do’ item ticked off the wedding list! We love the inspirational range at imaginediy.co.uk
17. Take a walk together
Find a National park or an area of outstanding beauty. Take your time. Perfect the art of ‘strolling’. Gaze into each other’s eyes and kiss…
18. Public Displays of Affection
Not a word of protest you’ll get out from us for the glorious PDA. We say, kiss in as many public places as possible for the sheer thrill of it (and as a shining beacon of hope for the next generation… KISSING IS MAGNIFICENT!).
19. Compile a photo collage of the two of you for the wedding
As before, just add alcohol and this makes for one of the best nights in…
20. Take a trip to the seaside
Yes, I know it’s WINTER but it’s wildly romantic. Do it. Don’t think. Just do it. Trust me on this one.
21. Go trial some wedding scents together!
This should be a collaborative decision. Get yourselves round Debenhams and spritz away my friends! Help decide on each other’s big-day scent…
22. Picture perfect
Go and find some beautifully romantic backdrops and compile a pre-wedding album as almost-newlyweds (not a thing but it should be right?!) How well do you really know the city you live in? Go and explore! You only need each other…
23. Make up a wedding dance routine
See number 19…
24. Book a wine tasting
Wonderfully festive and guaranteed full-of-fun. Take along your wedding menu and ask the experts to help match wines to the food!
25. Make a travel bucket list
Over a bottle of bubbles, plan where you’re going to spend a lifetime together exploring around the globe. Perhaps this could also become a feature of your wedding? Frame a map of the globe and direct guests to table names based on places you intent to visit in the future, rather than those you have… Now that’s romantic!
