We spent three days exploring the UK’s biggest bridal show at Harrogate, so of course we’ve got you covered on the directions 2018 seems to be heading…
We watched a lot of dramatic catwalks; we caught up with old friends and new. And, as always, we’ve been blown away by the sheer scale and effort that every single person puts into making their stands really pop at the Harrogate Bridal Show.
The dust has now settled after the UK’s largest bridal buying event, and we’ve returned to Love Our Wedding HQ – a somewhat calmer environment! But now that we’ve had a chance to sit down, have a cuppa, and really digest what we’ve seen over the past few days, we can answer the question you’re all asking: What were the essential trends on display at Harrogate 2017?
We might be in the twilight of the summer months, but that did not detract from there being a large amount of floral dresses on show. For added class and character to your bridesmaids, go floral!
Sparkle & Glitter
It was hard to miss some of the glitter-ball dresses at Harrogate, especially under the multitude of lights! They seem to work best when worn in confidence, and, when achieved, demand attention and ooze charisma.
It’s always refreshing to see variety among the oceans of white and ivory, so it came as a great pleasure to witness a percentage of coloured gowns making up the numbers, too. There’s no hard and fast rule that states you must wear white! Most important is that you feel comfortable.
Full, dramatic skirts
We certainly saw some volume on show, the designs of which were nothing short of captivating. Dramatic really is the right word here, working well across a number of differing body shapes.
We all know that when it comes to picking The Dress, the devil is in the details. Some of the gorgeous lace designs we saw at Harrogate were nothing short of spectacular. There is such a thing as a ‘too-busy’ design, but the dresses we saw were mesmerising.
Struggling for accessories? Rose gold seemed to have a strong presence at this year’s bridal show. Could this be the perfect way to dazzle your groom and match blushing tones? Harrogate 2017 certainly seemed to think so.
The terms ‘princess’ and ‘fairytale’ often find their way into conversation when discussing the tulle style. We saw a number of cascading tiers to this dress type in the exhibition halls. Flowing, stunning, and not one bit over-exaggerated.
We’ve already touched on the exquisite love that went into some of the lace dresses. However, we also noticed an overall attention to ensuring that the decorative features were on the up this year. Happily these details were subdued, somewhat – there’s a big difference between bold and lurid!
As you know doubt know, we’ve seen a whole abundance of bridesmaid dresses across the three days of Harrogate. An increasing number of them fell into the ‘dusky’, soft pink and blue colour palette. These soft tones are subtle, but nonetheless adorable. We fell in love with them, time and time again!
