We have you (sunscreen) covered with these top beauty tips for your fabulous wedding abroad…
From ensuring you keep up the SPF, to keeping skin matte for those all-important photographs, getting married abroad presents a range of beauty challenges that have to be overcome in order to be picture perfect on the day. We’ve teamed up with Kelly Lloyd-Sanderson of beauty, health and wellness expert Arbonne for her top tips to make sure you’re a beautiful, sun-kissed bride, even if (and when…) the temperature rises…
Embrace the season
Make use of summer shades, either a flattering coral lipstick or by utilising more golden and bronze tones on the eyes. Investing in a gold-toned highlighter is a great way to add an extra summer glow to cheek bones, the arch of the brow or the collar bone.
Don’t forget a darker foundation
As skin takes on a deeper colour in the sun, it’s important foundation isn’t a shade too light on the big day, as this can be obvious in a camera flash. Use the inside of the wrist to match the correct shade as other areas of skin can be have red tones as a result of the sun, which will not match the skin’s true colour.
Setting the makeup
This is the perfect way to ensure it lasts throughout the ceremony and reception. Start by using an oil-absorbing day cream to protect skin from perspiration; this will provide the perfect base for foundation. Once the bridal makeup is complete, use a setting spray to ensure a heat proof lasting look all day.
Protect the skin
Use a base layer with an SPF. Whether getting married in the UK sun or somewhere more exotic, the sun’s rays will be damaging to skin! Arbonne’s RE9 Advanced Restorative Cream (£55.00) has an SPF of 20, so will ensure long lasting protection throughout the day, whilst also deeply nourishing the skin.
Keep hair in place
Set your hair correctly and it should last all day, even in hot or humid weather. In tropical climates, perspiration and humidity can leave hair frizzy, meaning it won’t stay in place for as long as you need it to. Using a long-lasting, strong-hold hair spray is crucial and blow drying with a frizz control serum will keep hairs at bay during the big day.
Be camera ready
… At all times on the wedding day! With photographers trying to get the perfect shot all day, it’s important makeup is in place when you need it most. During summer, skin can perspire and become shiny, which is easily picked up on camera. Arbonne’s FC5 Mattifying Powder (£22.00) can be applied throughout the day, either before or after foundation and will absorb oil and leave skin looking perfectly matte, minimising shine.
Keep lips kissable
Ensure the chosen wedding-day shade is on hand! Lips can also get burnt by the sun so be sure to have a hydrating SPF barrier lip balm on as a primer will prevent this. Arbonne’s Liquid Sunshine Lip Balm Mineral Sunscreen (£10.00) has an SPF 15 so will keep lips protected from UVA and UVB rays, as well as keeping the lips hydrated and lipstick lasting longer!
