A traditional celebration that’s oh-so sophisticated! Bride Laura shares the details about her stunning Somerset Wedding…
How did Joel propose?
“I was filming a TV show in Ibiza and Joel came out for my two days off. We got the ferry to Formentera, hired a car and I had booked a lovely hotel for the night. After an amazing evening, we got back to the hotel and I got into my PJs and brushed my teeth. As I came out of the bathroom, I saw Joel lying on the bed with the ring! He then leapt up, dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him. It was the best surprise ever; I’ve never laughed and cried so much at once.”
What dress did you wear?
“It took me a while to find my perfect dress and it turned out to be something completely different to what I had expected. I chose a strapless Phil Collins Bridal dress from Emma Elizabeth. I also wore a bolero to add lace.”
And the accessories?
“I kept my jewellery simple, wearing my sister’s hair slide and bracelet and my grandmother’s sapphire and diamond ring I had inherited. Joel gave me a beautiful necklace that matched my engagement ring and wedding band.”
What did Joel wear?
“Joel wore a beautiful blue three-piece wool suit from Burtons that we chose together. We matched it with a pink tie and pocket square.”
Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?
“We had five bridesmaids who were a mixture of our sisters and best friends. The girls wore deep blue ASOS cowl neck dresses that suited them all, even Joel’s sister who was 6 months pregnant. They also had Jenny Packham shoes, which I loved.”
What was your theme?
“We didn’t have a theme as such, and wanted to keep the decorating simple and focused on a white, blue and pink colour theme. My mum handmade marmalade as the favours, which were delicious!”
What’s your top tip?
“Research! You’ll find yourself coming back to things again and again, which is a great indicator that it’s what you want. You’ll start to throw money at certain things towards the end, so keep a little extra back.”
