Inspired by JRR Tolkein’s The Hobbit, this day had a truly magical feel to it. Bride Laura tells all about her tipi wedding…
How did Luke propose?
“We went on an activity weekend camping in Wales, and set up camp. Before we knew it we were in the heart of the worst thunder and hail storm I’d ever experienced. We decided it best to abandon the trip and head home in the morning. With this decision made, Luke reached for his bag and said: “Well I guess you’d better have this now then.” He handed me a small box, and on bent knee (in the river that was running through our tent by that point) he proposed!”
What dress did you wear?
“I wore a lace and tulle dress with scattered sequins and pearls by Allure Bridals, which I chose at Lori G Bridal Studio in Allestree. My mother-in-law offered to pay for my dress, which made dress shopping into a lovely bonding experience. The ladies in store were wonderful from start to finish.”
And the accessories?
“I chose my shoes almost a year before the dress! We found them in Irregular Choice. I wore a Love Hearts silver pendant and a matching bouquet charm, complete with ‘I Do’ lettering, from Identity Jewellers of Derby. My diamond stud earrings and our rings were from Eaton’s The Jewellers of Derby. My auntie made hair accessories for myself and the bridesmaids.”
What did Luke wear?
“A check tweed jacket and waistcoat from Moss Bros, Debenhams chinos, a Jeff Banks shirt, and brogues from Brigden’s of Derby.”
Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?
“My bridesmaids were my sister Sarah, who gave me away, and both Luke’s sister Olivia and sister-in-law, Kerrie. We had our nieces, Robyn, Grace and Matilda as flowergirls, and my nephew Riley as pageboy. The bridesmaids wore dresses from BHS. The pageboy’s outfit was
from Monsoon.”
What was your theme?
“The Hobbit by JRR Tolkein, as it was the book that we were both reading when we first met. The tipi was dressed with wild flowers and ivy, guests’ tables were named after chapters from the book, and our cake was designed as a stack of books from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, topped off with The Hobbit.”
