We caught up with the fab lot from Imagine DIY to find out how vellum can make your DIY wedding stationery extra special! Here are their top tips and ideas…
Vellum is a fantastic way of adding an extra special twist to your wedding stationery, and can give a luxury feel to a low cost design. It is an extremely versatile material, and because of its neutral colour, it can be used to enhance any colour or print you choose.
DIY top tip: Use a laser printer if possible
A laser printer will give you the best print finish on vellum paper. If you are using an inkjet printer, then be aware that the ink will take a longer time to dry, and can smudge or bleed because of the non-porous nature of vellum. To avoid this, try using a different quality mode on your printer (e.g. draft or quick) which uses less ink. The less ink you use, the less time it will take to dry. Once you’ve printed your design, lay it flat and give it some time to dry before you work with it.
To help inspire you, we’ve designed a number of complimentary wedding stationery items using vellum in different ways. Why not have a go yourself using a colour and print of your choice?
Idea 1: Print the invitation on to vellum
Print your invitation wording on to vellum and then place it against a background of your choice. This is a really low cost and simple way of creating expensive looking invitations.
Idea 2: Make a monogrammed overlay
Overlays are an easy way of adding depth and interest to your designs. Once you’ve made your invitation, print your monogram (or personal message) on to vellum and place it over the top. This is easy to achieve and adds a fantastic personal touch.
Idea 3: Make an invitation wrap
I love invitation wraps. There is something about them that creates a sense of mystery and excitement…..almost like having to unwrap a gift! And what could be better than making an overlay using vellum?
Idea 4: Vellum inserts
Create interest inside your invitation by using vellum for your inserts. We’ve used a lovely floral vellum here for a perfect finishing touch.
Idea 5: Vellum invitation wallets
Use vellum invitation wallets to make a simple invitation come to life! The transculent nature of the vellum makes this a quick, easy and effective way of adding interest.
Idea 6: Make vellum tags or place cards
We love this quick and simple idea. Use vellum to make name cards or gift tags – just print, punch, thread some ribbon and you’re good to go! Low cost but extremely effective!
Idea 7: Make interesting table decorations or menus
A really simple but effective use of vellum. All you need to do is get hold of some off cuts of wood (or other material), print your menu on to the vellum, wrap it around and stick it in to place with double sided tape. To finish off, slide a stem of flowers behind the vellum. I think this is one of my favourite uses for vellum!
Why not try this idea with the following?
- Wine bottles
- Vintage bottles
- Vintage Books
Idea 8: Vellum envelope
Vellum envelopes are simply gorgeous! They give a sneaky hint of what is contained inside, look and feel amazing, and add a total sense of luxury. You can easily make your own vellum envelopes using the We R Memory Keepers envelope punch boards (sold on our website).
Why not give this one a go? Vellum envelopes can not only be used for your wedding invitations or thank you cards etc, with a little imagination, they can also be used to create unique favours, escort cards and confetti holders.
