This fun and colourful Disney-themed wedding had gorgeous blue details, and two very happy brides! Sally shares her wedding story…
How did Gemma propose?
“Gemma proposed by pausing the TV one Sunday morning, getting down on one knee and handing me a box. Inside that box was a note saying, ‘Instead of a ring, can I interest you in a Garmin watch? Only if you say yes of course!’.”
What accessories did you wear?
“I wore a bracelet from Pandora, a necklace from Next, my beautiful (now) wife’s diamond earrings and most importantly, custom-designed Converse trainers, themed with my favourite Disney film, Finding Nemo.”
What did Gemma wear?
“She wore her mother’s pearls and obviously custom-designed Disney Converse trainers – hers were The Little Mermaid themed!”
Who were your bridesmaids and where were their dresses from?
“We had one bridesmaid each, and both chose long-time friends. They both wore long navy dresses from Samui in Leicester, which were altered by Sue at Simply Brides. We had three of our nieces as flower girls, whose entire outfits were from Monsoon. Our nephew was a page boy who wore his own suit, plus a tartan bow tie from The Scotland Shop.”
How did you feel when you saw Gemma walk up the aisle?
“It felt amazing! Up to that point it had been a bit of a blur, getting ready and feeling nervous about getting there on time. I was too nervous to look around when I walked down the aisle so when it was Gemma’s turn, I turned round, saw her smiling face and then everyone else in the room smiling back at me!”
What was your wedding theme and how did you create it?
“Our theme was Disney as we’re both big Disney fans and got together over Frozen! We decided to give each table a name using a quote from different Disney films and then set out to decorate each one based on that theme. We continued the theme of ‘Happily Ever After’ on our top table and where we could around the room.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“Other than marrying my amazing wife, it was probably celebrating with all our family and friends who had all travelled a fair distance to be with us, as I am from Poole and my wife is from just outside Glasgow. Having all of them in the same room celebrating our marriage was truly magical.”
What was your best buy?
“Gemma’s alterations by Sue at Simply Brides and the flowers by Lily & Grace, as they were exactly what we had envisioned.”
What’s your saving tip?
Be realistic about what you want for your day and what you’re willing to pay. We didn’t have a budget as such, but we knew what we wanted and what was unnecessary.
