This traditional wedding in Essex, with a vintage pink scheme, is sheer perfection! Bride Kerry tells all…
How did Mike propose?
“Mike had booked The Ivy Restaurant in London where I had always wanted to go. We had an amazing meal and he proposed to me at the end. He told me afterwards that he’d wanted to get down on one knee, but we were jammed in a corner table and he couldn’t get out! Later, he took me for a drink at our favourite pub where he surprised me with all our family and friends in the garden. I couldn’t believe he’d organised all this and that my family kept it a secret. It was great to have everyone we loved there.”
What dress did you wear?
“The style I thought I wanted just didn’t suit my height or figure, so I decided to try everything! I thought I’d found ‘the one’ about 4 times, then I’d go home and over-think it. In the end I tried on a Cymbeline dress that the shop assistant pulled out and fell in love with it. Dresses always look better on than on the hanger.”
And the accessories?
“I wore sparkly, vintage-looking earrings, a sparkly bracelet my sister had given me as a bridesmaid for her wedding, and over my hair bun I had a jewelled accessory that gripped one side with a jewel cluster and draped pieces over it.”
What did Mike wear?
“The groomsmen wore blue suits from Marks & Spencer. Mike knew the colour he wanted and organised it all himself. He also got our nephews matching suits from Next. They also all wore brown brogues and pink ties.”
Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?
“I had two bridesmaids; my sister Hollie and my niece Ivy. We chose my sister’s dress first from Watters and then co-ordinated the colours with her dress. She just loved it straight away so we bought it before any of us changed our minds. Ivy is younger so we decided to get her a similar mini version of my dress.”
What was your best buy?
“It was important to us that our guests felt relaxed, which is why we loved our venue Leez Priory and all its different rooms. Our elderly guests could relax in one room if they needed to get away from the bar area and prams could be put in another with sleeping children if necessary.”
