Go off-peak – Booking your dream venue in less popular months is bound to save you a bundle! Good weather isn’t guaranteed in the Summer anyway, so why not take a gamble and book either side of the pricey period?
Week day – Again, booking your wedding on a week day or sometimes even a Sunday can make a dramatic difference to the price, so consider avoiding a Saturday to make real wedding savings from the get-go.
Have your ceremony and reception in same place – Holding your whole day in one venue means you’re not having to fork out for transport, moving guests from one place to another and can save on the decor too. Happy days.
Getting married in the afternoon – Choosing to marry later in the day can save you money on food and entertainment because you’re not having to occupy guests all day. Just cut straight to the party!
Call in favours – Getting help from family and friends can be a life saver when it comes to creating all the big day details. If your Auntie is an amazing baker, why not ask her to create your wedding cake instead of buying you a wedding gift? Make use of their talents as much as possible, to save yourself time and money!
DIY – Feeling creative? You might like to undertake a few little projects yourself, to put a personal stamp on your day! Check out some of these easy ideas to get you started…
Flowers – The cost of wedding flowers can soon mount up, but there are a few ways to make your budget stretch further. Foliage is a top trend for 2017 and is much less expensive than traditional blooms, so keep your displays savvy and stylish with plenty of leafy details! Similarly, handpicked-style bouquets full of wild flowers and seasonal blooms are much more cost-effective and easier to create yourself.
You could even ditch flowers all together or create paper blooms if you’re feeling creative! Don’t feel like you have to stick to tradition if you don’t want to, or the budget won’t allow it.
E-invites – Going paperless when it comes to your save the dates and invites, is a great way to cut down on the cost of traditional printed stationery and those costly stamps!
Food & drink
Help yourself – Forget the traditional three-course meal and opt for a buffet or BBQ instead, for a fun and budget-friendly alternative. Guests will love helping themselves and it’ll create a much more laid-back and sociable atmosphere.
Cake – Tiered wedding cakes can be super pricey, so why not choose cute cupcakes or a dessert table instead? If your heart’s set on a traditional design, many cake makers are happy to create fake tiers to make your creation look impressive without the price tag!
Forget the free bar – Don’t feel like you have to provide your guests with endless free drinks, if you can’t afford it. Providing a welcome drink and table wine is sufficient or, if you’d like to give them a little extra, limit their choices to keep costs down.
Make a playlist – Ditch the DJ and create your own playlist, for free entertainment that’s sure to get guests on the dance floor!
Live music – If a live band or musician is a little out of your price range, try contacting local student bands, buskers or even talented friends for super entertainment that’s budget-friendly.
Suited and booted – If you’ve got a lot of men in your bridal party, ask them to wear a suit they’ve already got or give them a budget and ask them to buy a suit of their choice that matches the scheme. They’ll get to keep the suit afterwards so will be happy to put any additional money towards the design they want.
Bridesmaids – Again, set your girls a budget and get them to find their own dresses. If they want to spend any extra they can! Making use of shoes and accessories they already have at home will also save you a bundle.
Sample sales – When it comes to finding your dream gown, keep an eye out for bridal events and sample sales near you for fabulous wedding savings.
