If you’re planning a fun festival wedding this summer, check out these top tips from French & Fahey…
Are you hoping your festival wedding day is going to be a fabulously boho chic affair, green meadows, blue skies, an outdoor dance floor under the stars and a fun festival twist? Make sure you’ve considered these essential tips for a successful festival style wedding:
Being Prepared for all weather conditions
It’s obvious, but it’s also crucial to be prepared that the weather might not be exactly what you hope for on your wedding day. 25 degrees, with clear skies and a pleasant breeze that makes your hair look fab in photos, would be the dream, but sadly it’s not always the reality! Whilst some brides or guests might revel in the fact that they finally get to wear their Hunter wellies, others could be really down heartened by the weather, so the most important thing is to be prepared! Consider shelter, footwear, umbrellas, waterproofs, warm blankets and bonfires, or if it looks like it might be very hot: Parasols, fans, flip-flops and a lot more ice! The extra props could be colour coordinated to fit in with your wedding theme, or if you’ve got the budget, why not personalize them and turn them into the wedding favors for guest to take home?
If you’re having a festival style wedding, then live music is essential. You might not have the budget for a famous headline band like some celebrity brides (Kate Moss & Primal Scream) but having live music is great for getting the festival atmosphere. Try to have a few different acts throughout the day, perhaps a solo acoustic set before the ceremony, a folky travelling band at cocktail hour and a crowd pleaser after dinner. Build a raised stage and announce the time the main band are coming on to get some anticipation in the air. Ask the group to play some of your favorite indie songs to get your guests jumping around and reminiscing of their first ever crowd surf! You might even get your 16 year old cousin to play on the ‘unsigned stage for new talent’!
Venue & Decoration
From the wedding stationery to venue decoration, creating the festival atmosphere is all in the details. Take time to get the look you want just right. Is it rustic farm vibes with trestle tables, hay bales, bunting and an outside dance floor surrounded by festoon lighting? Will you serve the drinks in iced bath tubs amongst retro caravan photo booths? Or is it more of a bohemian wonderland you are after? Featuring Moroccan rugs, endless poofs and cushions on the grass with a soft colour palette and twinkling fairy lights in the trees? Put together a mood board or Pinterest page of your ideal festival wedding deco and work towards that.
Glamping & The Next Day
If you’re doing the festival wedding properly you will need bell tent or teepee accommodation for guests that are glamping. Provide comfortable facilities and make sure your guests are fully prepared! A yurt or two can provide space for a chill out zone, a kid’s club, or vanity unit. Invite guests to bring their own camper vans or tents if they will feel more comfortable. Also remember that people will wake up hungry the morning after the wedding so be prepared to put on a family style brunch, or bring in a couple of food trucks for some festival style snacks!
If You’re Feeling Overwhelmed
If it’s all sounding like a bit too much to think about then how about turning to festival style destination wedding planners ‘French & Fahey’. F&F are based in the idyllic seaside town of Biarritz, in the Basque region of South West France. Between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees Mountains, their venue, Maison Granada is a ‘never been used before’ wedding venue to blow your socks off! In the quaint Basque village of Sare, Maison Granada, is a large renovated rural farmhouse. Here, F&F are offering summer festival style weddings with Nordic reception tent and bell tent accommodation. The stunning Basque farmhouse also includes a swimming pool and 8 charming bedrooms. This region is known for ocean views and sandy beaches (recently voted as Conde Nast Traveler’s best beach in France!) rolling green hills, sunsets behind hazy mountains and damn good food!
The duo will plan almost every aspect of your festival wedding for you, making sure the music creates the right atmosphere, the deco is spot on, the organization in the lead up and the morning after food and activities are covered. They can’t guarantee the weather, but with the warmer French climates you do have a much better chance of sunshine than relying on the British summertime!
