We’ve followed Heather’s story from the start, now she shares her gorgeous day, full of vintage touches and pastel details…
How did Danny propose?
“At Christmas, Danny surprised me with a trip to New York, booked for February 2015. It was -18 when we arrived and snowing everywhere! Danny had to be careful to hide the ring from me, which was especially tricky through airport security. On our second day in New York, we went to Central Park in the evening and had a walk around. He found a quiet spot so we sat down on a bench. He gave me a book of memories of us with a poem he’d written, which ended with him down on one knee! We were so happy, we went back to the hotel for champagne and couldn’t wait to tell our friends and family.”
What dress did you wear?
“I knew I wanted a Maggie Sottero dress and Brides at Waterfields have such a lovely choice. I saw the Pia dress online, and when I tried it on, I knew it was my dress.”
And the accessories?
“I had some Swarovski earrings and a bracelet I bought from Ernest Jones. I also bought some hair accessories for myself and the bridesmaids from Truly Delightful in Totnes. I chose a cathedral-length two-tiered veil and shoes from Rainbow Club.”
What did Danny wear?
“The groomsmen wore navy suits with tails and grey waistcoats. We hired the suits, shirts and shoes from Serenity Bridal Store in Newton Abbot.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“It was overwhelming seeing everyone in the church, and it probably didn’t help that I had kept them waiting (I was fashionably late!). My nerves calmed when I saw Danny – we couldn’t stop smiling at each other.”
Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?
“I had five bridesmaids who are my closest friends that I’ve known since primary school. It was so nice having them all involved in the wedding and they were a huge help in the build up to the day. They wore multiway Coast dresses in a rose colour.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“We had a fantastic band called Bill Ding & the Skyscrapers, which created a great party atmosphere. We also hired Glitz Photobooth, so there were plenty of funny photos to look back on from the night! Our caterers, Posh Nosh, provided really tasty mini burgers and pulled pork buns. We loved our real confetti petals from Shropshire Petals and our sparklers in the evening, which both made for some really nice photos. It was such an amazing day, we didn’t want it to end!”
