Dreamcatchers, music and dancing – this outdoors wedding had a real festival vibe! Bride Thea tells all…
What dress did you wear?
“My dress was a two-tone Maggie Sottero design, which my gorgeous mum bought for me. I also wore the same veil my mum wore for her wedding almost 30 years ago! I loved my dress but I wanted to add more to it, so I took it to Individual Designs in Chesterfield to a fabulous lady named Jeanette. I had a lot of the ‘poof’ taken out, and had the front lifted to show off my boots!”
And the accessories?
“I wore white Dr Martens with pink flowers, which I customised. I also wore a real birch leaf that had been oxidised in bronze as a necklace from Stone Art and my bracelets were all handmade from metal bangles with lace and ribbon glued into different patterns. The most sentimental was a Victorian silver and rose gold Albertina watch chain with a tassel fob that my mum gave to me from her huge antique silver collection.”
What did John wear?
“Thai fisherman trousers, an off-white shirt, a dark brown waistcoat and brown boots.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“Once we made it to the seating area, I saw my guests laughing and so excited, then I spotted John. I felt amazing. He looked incredible. When I reached him we had a massive cuddle.”
Who were your bridesmaids and what did they wear?
“My sister, Lara, was my maid of honour. My best friend, Lydia, was chief bridesmaid, and my two bridesmaids were my other two best friends – Jazz and Fran. We found most of the outfits in TK Maxx.”
What was your theme?
“Our theme was based around dreamcatchers. I feel the legend of the dreamcatcher represents us as a couple, and I love how they look! I created two giant ones from hoola hoops, which I decorated with fabric, ribbon, lace and string from Fred’s Haberdashery in Chesterfield. I also bought lots of dreamcatcher earrings from ebay, which I added to the decorations, buttonholes and on my boots, too!”
What was the highlight of your day?
“This is so tough! I loved our African percussion jam outside, it was amazing! I loved watching our guests open the favour boxes I had made, full of little gifts. I loved playing volleyball. I loved our first dance as everybody blew bubbles (one of the gifts) around us. And, of course, I loved getting married to John!”
