Inspirational Uk bridal blog, Brides Up North, share their top tips for making your wedding stand out…
While we don’t want couples to become so competitive with their wedding plans that things turn into a remake of Bride Wars, we do understand the desire for their wedding day to stand out from others.
With wedding ‘rules’ and traditions becoming increasingly relaxed, brides and grooms have more freedom than ever before to really add the wow-factor to their big day.
And so, in today’s post we’re taking a look at some ways in which couples can set their wedding apart from others and make it a day to be remembered by all…
A fabulous venue
What better way to wow your guests from the off than with a striking and individual setting? Today the options for venues go way beyond the church ceremony and hotel reception combo, with historic castles, beautiful manor houses and halls, cool urban buildings and enchanting outdoor spaces all on the cards. Just think about what represents you best as a couple and the theme/feel that you’d like your day to have. You could also look at the special extras that a venue can offer to make your celebrations even more memorable; such as award-winning food, stunning outdoor areas for drinks receptions, luxurious accommodation, or perhaps a ‘secret’ late bar where the partying can continue into the small hours. Hotels can still be an exciting option, but for diversity look to those with individual character and charm, whether it be city chic, beautiful boutique or rustic romance.

A show-stopping dress
Perhaps the most highly-anticipated element of the wedding (especially for us girls) – what will the bride be wearing? Well just like the options for venues, the choice of attire is almost never-ending. Where once there was a clear bridal look for an era, fast-paced trends and fashion-forward designs mean that brides can now represent their own style and personality through their big day threads, rather than simply following suit. Dresses with amazing back detail are a huge trend right now and effective in drawing gasps from guests when walking down the aisle. Equally gowns with exquisite and intricate detailing and those of a voluminous nature will turn heads. But then there are choices beyond the dress too, as striking bridal separates increase in popularity and bold bridal jumpsuits start to make an appearance on the catwalks. Whatever you decide, how you wear the dress will ultimately determine how much impact your look has, so be sure to feel both comfortable and confident.

Nothing creates ambience like live entertainment and will often be one of the things guests remember most from the day. While a skilful DJ is an excellent choice to keep the party going late into the night, there are other acts that should be considered in order to enhance the experience. For those having a church ceremony a choir is a beautiful addition to really set the scene, while at the drinks reception a string quartet or acoustic singer can be a great way to set the tone, and later in the night live bands can really set the party off with a bang. Beyond the music, acts such as magicians and caricaturists can be a great way to break the ice among guests as they mingle during informal parts of the day. Where the venue permits fireworks and sparklers provide a spectacular end to the night and can make for some fabulous photo opportunities too.

Make it personal
Often the weddings that make us sit up and take notice the most are those that are a true representation of the couple with personal touches woven into the smallest of details. For example, picking a venue or setting that means something to the bride and groom; perhaps where they like to go on a getaway or the place that they first met or got engaged. The theme can also work around the couple – a reflection of their hobbies or passions or perhaps their backgrounds. Food and drink choices are another area to express personal tastes with ‘his and hers cocktails’ and wedding menus made up of couples’ favourite dishes adding both a quirky and fun element to the day. For ‘crafty’ couples, making certain items, such as stationery, signage and décor, also helps to put an individual stamp on wedding and set it apart from others.

Rather than going to town a venue, some couples prefer to hire a blank canvas for their wedding that they can then dress up to make their day totally unique to them. Whether it’s a village hall or tipi, a little imagination and creativity can go a long way in transforming an empty space into a wow-worthy setting. If you’re not that handy yourself, call on the talents of family, friends and professional suppliers to help turn your vision into a reality and don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Striking floral arrangements, suspended décor and atmospheric lighting are just a few ways to help achieve the dream.
