This breathtaking wedding in Hampshire has to be one of our favourites yet! A gorgeous bride, stunning details and Christmas touches! Melissa reveals all…
What dress did you wear?
“I think I must have tried on every shape of dress going, visited what felt like a million bridal stores and began to think that all the talk of finding the perfect dress was untrue. But when I visited Brides Of Winchester and tried on Grosvenor by Suzanne Neville, I knew immediately I had found the one!”
And the accessories?
“I wore a hair vine by Ivory & Co, which I bought from Liberty In Love. My shoes were by Rachel Simpson.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“I was more nervous than I think I have ever been! I was shaking and clinging onto my Papa. But I was also so excited to see Simon waiting for me.”
What was your theme?
“Pretty, a little quirky and very personal. We wanted to steer clear of the usual winter/Christmas wedding colours and instead opted for soft heathery hues, lots of candles and plenty of personal touches that would work well with the rustic setting. We had a few quirky details, Including our vintage typewriter, which we used as a guest book. It was such fun to read all the notes after the wedding. Also, my mother handmade over 50 little felt birds, which were either given as thank you gifts, hidden around the tables, or placed peeking out amongst the flowers. Each one was different, and I couldn’t believe how detailed they were.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“Getting married to Simon was the very best part and so special, but to do it with all of our family and closest friends there was simply wonderful. Also, we did the final dance of the night and all of our guests spontaneously danced around us in a big circle, which was a lovely moment – I definitely had a few tears then!”
What was your best buy?
“We love gin, and so do most of our friends, so we decided to make a range of different flavours of gin (and a few vodkas) as wedding favours. I made little thank you labels and we filled small glass bottles up with the different flavours. Our guests loved them!”
What’s your saving tip?
“We saved so much money by not having a florist do our flowers. Buying them wholesale was so simple and they were delivered direct. The day before our wedding we couldn’t move in our house due to flowers being everywhere! We couldn’t believe how many we got for the price.”

[…] Lighting is an important consideration for Winter weddings, as it’ll get darker a lot quicker and electric lighting isn’t always the most flattering. Give your wedding decor a cozy glow with candles and lanterns, like Melissa and Simon did for their Christmas wedding – these standing lanterns are ideal for dotting around your venue. They even had a wicker reindeer woven with fairylights! See the rest of the wedding here. […]
