This gorgeous day, with marquee wedding reception, has bundles of inspiration! Bride Philippa tells her story…
What dress did you wear?
“My wedding dress was the first gown I tried on! Laura and Hayley at Brides of Winchester took one look at me and gave me a Stewart Parvin dress to try. As soon as I put it on I felt beautiful, I could imagine getting married in that dress. As it was the first ever wedding dress I had tried on, I was really unsure if it was ‘the’ dress or if every wedding dress might make me feel that amazing. I tried on a few more but couldn’t feel as comfortable or special in anything else. My mum and I spent the next week in different bridal shops looking at different dresses, but we quickly realised that we were comparing everything
I tried on to that first dress, and nothing was coming close. The service we had at Brides of Winchester was the best and I really felt that I wanted to buy my dress from there, as their care and patience had made the dress search experience really special.”
And the accessories?
“I had fresh flowers in my hair and wore very little jewellery – simple gold drop earrings from Nick’s parents and a gold and amethyst bracelet that had belonged to my grandmother. I wanted something of hers with me on the day.”
What did Nick wear?
“Nick and his best man Kriss had matching suits from Ted Baker. Kriss, the ushers and our fathers all had matching ties but Nick chose to wear a different tie. He looked incredibly handsome.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“I was shaking from adrenalin and nerves outside the church door, but as the Vicar asked everyone to be standing and my entrance music played, my nerves vanished and I was struck by pure happiness. I walked down the aisle with the biggest smile on my face, looking at all the faces of my family and friends smiling back at me and then settling my gaze on my handsome husband who met my eyes with a big smile.”
Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?
“My maid of honour was Kerry (Nick’s sister). She wore a deep-pink fitted dress from Coast.”
What was your theme?
“We didn’t have a theme as such, but family inspired the whole wedding. Nearly every item – from the cake to the bunting – was made either by ourselves or by family! Everything being handmade made the run up to the day stressful but exciting as we came together as a team.”
