Hot off the catwalks at The Harrogate Bridal Show, here are the fabulous new trends to watch out for in 2017…
The Harrogate Bridal Show is one of the biggest bridal trade events in the world, attracting all the best designers and manufacturers in wedding fashion from all around the globe. This week we went along to see what the latest trends are for 2017, here’s what we discovered…
We predicted that High-low hemlines would be big for 2017, and it looks like we were right! Many designers have tapped into this trend, with tea-length fronts and longer trains at the back. Perfect for brides that want something a little different, and a great excuse to show off those shoes! We also saw loads of beautiful full skirts with fabulous layers, pastel-coloured underskirts and sumptuous details – from feathers to all-over sparkle. We found our favourites at JLM, Justin Alexander, Modeca and Nicole Spose.
Sequins have been a big trend in general this year, particularly on bridal gowns under layers of chiffon and tulle, but we spotted lots of bridesmaid dresses that were top-to-toe sequins in metallic hues. Ultra-glam and so pretty! Some of the best examples were by Dessy, Mori Lee and Watters.
We loved the diversity of gowns on offer, allowing brides to customise their dresses. Separates were still a huge trend, with Catherine Parry’s new collection wowing in particular, as well as the Infinity Bridal collection by Romantica of Devon, which allows you to add all sorts of belts, skirts and embellishments to mix up your look. Casablanca Bridal are also a fab choice, with gorgeous gowns that can be customised to suit your style. Removable trains were also popular, giving brides the option to release heavy skirts for the evening.
Low v-necklines and backs
Brides that want a more daring look for the big day will be spoilt for choice in 2017. We saw so many pretty styles featuring low V-necklines, and low backs too. We adored those on offer by Casablanca Bridal, Allure Bridals and Benjamin Roberts.
Illusion backs have been a big trend for a while now, but we couldn’t believe the beauty of many of the new collections. With designers paying so much attention to the backs of dresses, they’ve been so clever with the materials used to give
the illusion of tattooed lace on the skin. Some of our favourites came from Ladybird, Mark Lesley, Cizzy Bridal and
Flowers were prominent this year, with more designers adding show-piece gowns to their collections. We knew this would be a big trend after seeing the gorgeous designs by Charlotte Balbier and Sassi Holford earlier this year, and it seems that many more designers have tapped into this trend. We found more designs by Mojgan Bridal, Catherine Parry and Sophia & Camilla.
We saw lots of gorgeous trains at Harrogate, with some designers making this the main focus of the whole dress. We found some of the best examples of this by Mon Cheri, Enzoani and Chanticleer, and we loved the extended lace trains by Kittychen and Diane Legrand.
Wedding Dress of the Year 2016
Love Our Wedding were proud sponsors of this coveted Bridal Buyer Award this year, and even up until the moment we opened the card to announce the winner, we couldn’t call who would take the crown! The finalists included Ellis Bridals, Enzoani, Essense of Australia, Maggie Sottero and Mori Lee, but it was the stunning Sheridan design by Watters Brides that took the title. This beautiful strapless dress features a beautifully-embellished bodice and sweetheart neckline, finished with a full A-line tulle skirt. If this design is anything to go by, the fairytale style is definitely set to make a big comeback for 2017. A gorgeous gown, and a worthy winner.
