This super-cool winter wedding ticks all our fairytale boxes! Bride Kate reveals the details…
How did Darren propose?
“Darren had booked a week in Cornwall and planned to pop the question while on holiday, but in true Darren fashion, he got so excited that he asked just before we left!”
What dress did you wear?
“I’d been to a few shops and nothing was jumping out at me – lots of lovely dresses, but nothing that made me think ‘wow’. I walked into Future Brides and went straight to the light gold Romantica of Devon dress with all its beautiful details, and I just knew that was my dress. The girls in the bridal boutique were fantastic and so helpful.”
And the accessories?
“I had a very special pair of vintage pearl earrings from a great friend for my something borrowed, and a beautiful cuff and head piece from Bridal Adornments, which they made to suit my dress. I also wore a long veil and my shoes were from Irregular Choice.”
What did Darren wear?
“Darren wanted something a little different and fell in love with a Ted Baker navy velvet tuxedo jacket and matching bow tie, which he wore with a dress shirt and trousers. He looked so smart but with a bit of flair that suited his personality.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“He looked so handsome and I wasn’t nervous at all, just so excited to marry him. I think I nearly ran up the aisle!”
Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?
“My bridesmaids were my cousin Cara, my sister-in-law Amy, Darren’s daughter Abbi and my best friend Dave, who was my man of honour. The girls wore beautiful lace and tulle skirts from Coast with ballet tops and lovely lace heels from Irregular Choice. Dave had a smart black Ted Baker tuxedo to match Darren but with an extra-special buttonhole so everyone knew he was part of the bridal party.”
What was your theme?
“We went for a luxurious winter woodland theme. We filled the venue with different woods and lots of beautiful flowers. Our gold sequinned cake was so large we made it a feature, so to complement it we had a dessert table full of goodies set out on logs, and a cheese wheel cake with gold foiled fruit.”
What’s your saving tip?
“We wanted a winter wedding, and because it was out of season we got a great deal by speaking to the venue. If you aren’t set on a date, ask what the venue can offer.”
