This big day on the sea is how you do a wedding abroad in style! Bride Hannah tells all…
How did Romain propose?
“We were on safari in South Africa and it was New Year’s Eve. The rangers were about to do a count down and Romain disappeared. He came back, took me to one corner (pretending he’d seen a rhino) and got down on one knee! I was so shocked and happy I didn’t say yes for about five minutes!”
What dress did you wear?
“I had an Inbal Dror gown, which I bought from Morgan Davies Bridal in London. It was stunning, I couldn’t have loved it more for our day. We did also celebrate back in the UK with friends only – it was the hottest day of the year, and it was this celebration that gave me the idea for House of Ollichon – my own bridal collection. I couldn’t find anything I wanted to wear and realised there was a gap in the market.”
And the accessories?
“I wore a dried flower garland in my hair, which my mum made, vintage drop earring that my bridesmaid Nikki bought me and a lovely bracelet borrowed from a friend.”
What did Romain wear?
“He had a suit made for him by a tailor in London. It was lovely, a strong but light blue colour with a pink tie.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“To be honest, I hadn’t anticipated that walking up the aisle on a boat while at sea was going to be so tricky! So while concentrating on staying upright I just looked at his funny, smiling face and quickly had to switch my concentration from walking to not crying!”
Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?
“Four of my best friends from school. I wanted the girls in nautical, fun dresses and luckily found them in River Island.”
What was your theme?
“It was beachy, nautical and relaxed. Our photo booth was a little boat, we had a fun ‘peek through’ backdrop like you find on Brighton Pier, and I filled the place with shells, starfish and rope. The menus were a ‘message in a bottle’ on each table and the name places were mussel shells. As most brides probably do, I loved the decoration part so much.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“It was my husband’s speech. He was incredibly nervous about it but totally nailed it. It was absolutely hilarious and he flicked between English and French so naturally. I just wish we’d filmed it.”
