Retro-loving brides listen up! If you want a fabulously vintage wedding without the price tag, look no further…
Britain’s leading vintage festival ‘Salute to the 40’s’, have announced that festival-goers can legally tie the knot at the event, which takes place on 17th and 18th September at The Historic Dockyard Chatham.
Couples can choose between two unique locations – Commissioner’s House with its manicured lawn or aboard HMS Gannet (1878). With a ready-made reception party, this is the perfect place to say an alternative ‘I do’. Not many people can say they had the London Swing Orchestra, and a couple of Historical Warships, HM Submarine Ocelot and HMS Gannet, at their wedding!
The festival is a great day out for all the family with vintage traders and stalls, Courtyard Vintage Fair, 1940s’ Village Fete, nostalgic sing-a-longs and ‘40s entertainment, fashion shows, vintage car parades, Spitfire aircraft displays and much more.
Salute to the ‘40’s is the most exciting vintage festival on the UK circuit, and new for this year is Wheels and Frills – a street party overlooking the Dockyard’s Historic Warships, packed with food stalls, experiential workshops and themed entertainment for all ages. Learn to swing dance, jive or Lindy Hop and make rope whilst being entertained by the likes of Gypsy John, the Cinque Port Lindy Hoppers and DJ Danger UXB.
Throughout the event you can also experience vintage makeovers, tours of the underground bomb shelter and a breathtaking broadside gun firing display from the Second World War Destroyer, HMS Cavalier. You’ll re-live the iconic era, brought to life through hundreds of 1940’s re-enactors – climb on board the driver’s cab of a Second World War locomotive, see a military camp, a bombed-out house, a fire station, a shop and a 1940’s pub.
As the sun sets on the Chatham festival, performers, entertainers and re-enactors will join on the Spitfire Stage to perform a ‘Finale Sing Song’, led by The London Swing Orchestra.
