We chat to the stars of our August issue, Ellis Bridals, about their stunning designs…
Who are Ellis Bridals?
Ellis Bridals is the creation of one very forward-thinking woman, Ada Ellis, who back in the 1900s created bespoke fashion pieces for the society women of her day. When Ada met and subsequently married the love of her life Sam in 1910, she knew exactly what she wanted to wear and so made her own beautiful wedding dress. On her big day she was surrounded by some of the most stylish women in London and soon after she was inundated with requests for her bridal designs. A business was born and soon Ada needed to move out of her small studio, source a team of craftsman and began to expand her reach outside of London as word quickly spread. We have never forgotten Ada’s ethos for creating dresses that not only show the craftsmanship in fine needlework and embellishments, but also in the signature Ellis Bridals shape.
Tell us about your current collections
The latest collection is light, dreamy and fashion-forward. There is a thread of sensuality running through with a selection of illusion necklines, plunging backs and embellished corsetry inspired by vintage French lingerie.
What advice would you give to our brides starting their dress search?
Take a trusted couple of family or friends with you to your bridal appointments. It can be very easy to overcrowd and then cloud your judgment. Don’t forget this is your dress and your day – if you can’t imagine walking down the aisle in it, then it’s not the right dress for you!
What is your favourite style?
It has to be one of the styles from our Magnolia 2016 collection. Style 11452 (pictured, below) is a sweeping fit and flare skirt with a striking V-neck front and back, which we then delicately placed lace appliqués all over. It’s that effortlessly romantic shape brides have always craved.
What can we expect next from Ellis Bridals?
The 2017 collection is modern, creative and something we feel is very unique in bridal fashion right now! Inspired by that bride who loves to create her own individual look, we excitedly expanded our range of separates, jackets and belts gifting brides the ability to build up or down their look throughout the day. We’ve also tried to offer more than the ‘classic’ ivory, bringing in subtle hints of blush pinks and golds.
