Real bride Nikki tells us how she created her vintage glamour theme, with touches of purple and blue…
How did Olly propose?
“Olly proposed in Mallorca, Spain, on our sixth anniversary. It’s a place that’s very special to us. When we arrived in Mallorca, he took me to my favourite tapas restaurant before revealing that we were staying in the most beautiful hotel, the Maricel – somewhere we’ve always dreamed about staying in and often visited for just a cocktail or two. He took me by complete surprise!”
What dress did you wear?
“A Maggie Sottero dress from Miss Bush in Ripley. It was the first wedding dress shop I’d been to and I tried on about six dresses in total. We went away for an hour to have lunch, think about it, and I thought why not? I’ll only go to another five shops and end up back here! My mum and sister loved it and I was sure it was the one.”
What did Olly wear?
“A Reiss suit, Russell & Bromley shoes and belt, and a silk tie and pocket square from Thailand.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“I couldn’t stop staring at him! I felt so nervous walking in and just remember thinking, look at Olly and you’ll be OK. I was shaking!”
Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?
“My sister Clare was my maid of honour, her dress was from Phase Eight. My flowergirls were my nieces Millie, Josie, Heidi and Martha. Their dresses were from Monsoon. They wore real ballet shoes (I used to do ballet, so it felt like a personal touch).”
What was your theme?
“Vintage glam with a twist of boho. We made all the stationery; my mum and sister did all the flowers; Olly’s mum made the favours, and his sister made the cake.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“Having our family all together just for us. We were so pleased my dad was able to attend as he was in hospital the week before, so it was touch and go if he could come.”
What was your best buy?
“Templates for our stationery from Etsy. We spent quite a lot on printing but it was cheaper than buying from a professional.”
