A breathtaking wedding abroad with chic details. We caught up with bride, Chanel…
How did Jody propose?
“After 3 years together on New Year’s Eve 2014, while on a helicopter flight around the Cape Peninsula. While flying over part of Table Mountain, Jody popped the question.”
What dress did you wear?
“I had my beautiful dress made by Elbeth Gillis. It was a champagne colour, French lace dress. I was lucky enough to know what type of dress I wanted; I told Elbeth what I had in mind to wear on my day and she created it for me. I wanted it to be sleek, elegant and modern.”
And the accessories?
“I didn’t wear much jewellery, but what I did wear was beautiful pearl vintage earrings, and I had a hairpiece made from shells and pearls. Both were designed and made by Lilyblue. My shoes were pretty heels from Steve Madden and my mohair shawl was bought from a craft market.”
What did Jody wear?
“Jody wanted to look comfortable, yet stylish. His suit, shirt etc was bought at Woolworths.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“It can be an emotional experience walking down the aisle with your father holding you so tightly and all your friends whispering well wishes, but as you see him for those first few moments, everything disappears. Jody has always been my centre of calm and reason, and seeing him look at me with happiness and awe, I knew this was the beginning of a new, wonderful adventure.”
Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?
“Our bridesmaids were Jody’s two daughters. Their pretty blue dresses were bought from the Young Designers Emporium.”
What was your theme?
“We wanted something simple and whereby everyone would have fun. The tables were different sizes, heights and styles, with bar-style chairs, sofas and ottomans scattering the reception area. I decorated the reception area with blush, duck-egg blue table runners, as well as gold sequence table cloths. The tables were covered with seasonal flowers in a variety of vases and jars.”
What was your best buy?
“My best buy was definitely my wedding dress and veil.”
What’s your saving tip?
“Decide on what you want, be sensible with what you can afford and use local produce.”
