Real bride-to-be Heather tells us all about her wedding planning ahead of her big day in July…
Date engaged: 16th February 2015
Wedding Date: 23rd July 2016
How did you and Danny meet?
Danny and I have been together for the past three years after a mutual friend set us up. On our first date we realised we had so much in common and had a lot of mutual friends, we were surprised we hadn’t met each other sooner!
How did Danny propose?
He surprised me at Christmas with a trip to New York in February. On the second night of the trip we went to Central Park. It was freezing cold and there was snow all around. We sat on a bench and he presented me with a lovely book he’d made with a poem and photos of fun times we’d shared together. As I got to the end of the book, Danny was down on one knee with a ring asking me to marry him!
Were you expecting it at all?
No, I was completely surprised! He’d manage to ask both my parents’ permission and told my best friend without me suspecting anything! When we returned from New York we had a big party to celebrate.
How are you feeling with only two months now until the big day?!
I’m really looking forward to the big day. Over the past few months, Danny and I have been busy planning and we’re really excited for the wedding. No doubt I will be stressed out nearer the time though!
What’s been the best bit about planning?
For me one of the highlights has been choosing my dress because it’s such a special experience. I brought my mum, future mother-in-law and bridesmaids dress shopping with me and it was good to have their input. However, if you ask Danny, he will probably say the menu tasting was the best part!
What’s been the hardest part of the planning process?
Choosing the guest list has been really hard as we are restricted on numbers. We wish we could invite everyone to the day but unfortunately it’s just not possible.
What about your dress? Did you buy what you thought you would?
I tried on loads of different dresses and there were so many I liked. In the end I decided to narrow down my search to particular designers that I liked, otherwise I could’ve kept looking forever! I’m really pleased with the dress I’ve chosen… No spoilers though, because Danny will see this!
What suppliers have you booked?
I took advice from friends and decided to book most of the suppliers early to ensure they were available for our date. We’ve booked Life Photographic – two lovely photographers from Falmouth – Cupcake Videos to film the
big day, Posh Nosh catering, Emma Hewlett as our florist, and a local band called Bill Ding & the Skyscrapers.
What are you most looking forward to?
I’m most looking forward to the ceremony at the church, having my dad walk me down the aisle and Danny and I taking our vows. After that I’m most looking forward to dancing and drinks in the evening. We have booked a live band so it should make for a great atmosphere.
What advice do you have for other brides planning?
Make sure you set a budget early on and keep revisiting it to check you’re not over-spending. There are so many ideas online, in wedding magazines and at wedding fairs that you could get carried away and end up spending a lot more than you had intended. Obviously you want your day to be extra special but there are other things you could spend money on, like the honeymoon.
In a few months we’ll be featuring Heather’s wedding and finding out how her special day went, so stay tuned!
