We love this quirky wedding theme, with a rich colour palette of purples and oranges. Bride Amy tells us all about her day…
How did James propose?
“On Valentine’s Day 2012 we went for an evening walk with our dog. We were walking under the moonlight alongside a little stream when we decided to sit on a bench to take in the scenery, he popped the question there! It was beautiful.”
What dress did you wear?
“I wore a gorgeous Justin Alexander dress, which I absolutely adored!”
And the accessories?
“I wore a birdcage veil from Britten, pretty pearl drop earrings from a tiny shop called Crystal Chain and a pearl bracelet, which was my mother’s, as my something borrowed.”
What did James wear?
“After changing his mind multiple times, James ended up going for a dark grey tails suit. I had no idea what he had chosen until I walked down the aisle!”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“I thought he looked so handsome, the nerves left me and I had a tear in my eye. After 11 years, I was marrying my best friend.”
Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?
“I had five bridesmaids – my two sisters, my sister-in-law and two of my best friends. Their dresses were all from TK MAXX.”
What was your theme?
“Ever since James and I met, we had always celebrated Halloween by having fancy dress house parties, so we decided to choose it for our wedding date. We had so many ideas but didn’t want to go too over board on the ghosts and ghouls, so we decided to go along the autumnal route. We included lots of pumpkins and used the colour scheme of purple and orange. I decided to help our budget and make use of my graphic design degree by doing most things myself. I made our table plan, card box, guest book and even made all my own buttonholes, cake topper and the bouquets! To top off the Halloween theme we made our own fancy dress box, had a sweet cart with Halloween-themed sweets and a face painter in the evening. This went down very the with kids and the adults!”
What’s your saving tip?
“I feel that by creating most of our bits myself saved us so much money in the end. It did take a lot of time and effort but we were able to put more towards our choice of venue and other things, which made the hard work worth it! To see everything come together on the day and know that as a couple you did it yourselves, is such a great feeling, too.”
