Want to add a pop of colour to your day? Follow this fun step-by-step DIY project from The Wedding Spark…
Here, Jen and Rebecca from The Wedding Spark show you how to make your very own origami paper crane! Create a garland or backdrop for a fab wedding decoration, or use as quirky place cards or favours. You could even follow the old Japanese tradition of folding 1,000 cranes to bring good luck and fortune to the couple getting married!
All you need is some origami paper, which you will find at most craft stores or online, and a little patience!
Step 1: Take your origami paper and fold in half diagonally.
Step 2: Now fold in half again
Step 3: Lift the top flap and push it out so it forms a square
Step 4: Turn over and repeat on the other side so your paper now looks like this
Step 5: Fold the two side points so they meet in the middle
Step 6: Turn over and repeat on the other side
Step 7: Fold the top point downwards
Step 8: Now open out the folds on one side
Step 9: Lift the flap upwards & using the fold lines as a guide flatten to make a diamond shape
Step 10: Turn over and repeat step 8 & 9 so you are left with this
Step 11: Fold the two side points of the top sheet so they meet in the middle
Step 12: Turn over and repeat on the other side
Step 13: Take the right side of the diamond & fold over to the left
Step 14: Repeat on the other side so you’re left with this
Step 15: Take the bottom point & fold upwards
Step 16: Repeat on the other side
Step 17: Take the right side & fold over to the left
Step 18: Repeat on the other side
Step 19: Fold the top point downwards (this is making your crane’s wing)
Step 20: Do the same on the other side
Step 21: Pull the two points out slightly – these are your crane’s head & tail & then fold over the end of one of the points to create the head
Now you have a paper crane!
