A beautiful outdoor wedding with rustic vintage touches. Bride Sarah shares the details…
Shaun proposed eight years ago while we were on holiday with friends in turkey. We were in Dolphin square when he proposed.
What dress did you wear?
I wore an Alfred Angelo dress, purchased from Diva in Barnsley. This was the first and only bridal shop I visited. The customer service was first class and the lady who served me was so experienced and passionate about her job. I really enjoyed the experience of buying my wedding dress.
And the accessories?
I only wore a set of rose gold heart earrings, which my mum and sister bought me and gave them to me the night before the wedding. I had real flowers in my hair and the bridesmaids did too.
What did Shaun wear?
Shaun wore a navy Ted Baker suit, which I hired from Moss Brothers in Meadowhall. It was a three-piece suite with a purple tie to link in with bridesmaid dresses.
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
I was surprised that I didn’t feel nervous on the day. Shaun was in tears when I walked down the aisle and I felt proud to be marrying him in front of our close friends and family.
Who were your bridesmaids and where were their dresses from?
I really struggled to find bridesmaid dresses that I was happy with. I purchased them from ASOS and they were Chi Chi London dresses. The quality and detailing on the dresses really stood out on the photos, and they were a bargain at £65! My chief bridesmaid was my twin sister Nicola, and I also had my brothers girlfriend Alex, Shaun’s sister Laura and my cousin Nicole as bridesmaids.
What was your wedding theme?
Our wedding theme was rustic vintage to compliment our venue at Cubley Hall. I wanted simple and natural details. I loved my flowers they were amazing and so well displayed. They really helped create what I pictured from day on.
What was the highlight of your day?
Our evening reception was really enjoyable. The band and the DJ were fantastic and everyone spent the evening dancing – the dance floor was packed from the beginning of the night to the very end. I wanted the day to last forever and wish we could get married every day! I also felt quite overwhelmed walking into the wedding reception as the tables were set up to perfection. I’m not sure much food was eaten and I’m sure the guests enjoyed the wine on the table more! We also had a camper van photobooth, which was great fun and the pictures were hilarious to see the next day.
What was your best buy?
Our wedding cake, as it was free! I was sitting by the pool in Portugal on my hen do when I asked if my close friend Jemma would like to make my wedding cake. I don’t think she really believed me at the time! Her cakes taste amazing. I was so impressed with the naked wedding cake she made and this was her first ever wedding cake. Jemma had to assemble the wedding cake the morning of the wedding. She was so nervous she had to start drinking early to settle her nerves. Unfortunately Jemma was a little drunk by the evening reception and missed it all. The cake was fab thought she should be really proud of herself.
What’s your saving tip?
Making your own creations, sticking to a budget and been really organised. I’m really impressed that our wedding came in on budget and I feel we had everything we planned for without spending too much. Get friends and family to help source accessories and make items, this makes them feel involved.
