This high summer wedding was petal perfect! Bride Claire shares the details…
How did Matthew propose?
“Matthew proposed on a snowy winter’s walk through the grounds at Dunham Massey. He got down on one knee in a puddle and I couldn’t believe it! In the evening we had a romantic meal followed by what I thought was cocktails. It just so happened all my family and friends were there to surprise me and join in our celebration!”
What dress did you wear and where did you buy it?
“I wore a Jenny Packham dress called Esme from The White Closet, Didsbury. I knew that I wanted to wear a Jenny Packham dress and heard that The White Closet had an extensive collection of them. I tried on six dresses and loved them all! When I tried on the final dress my mum couldn’t hold back her emotions, and so Esme was the one.”
And the accessories?
“My shoes were from Dune, and I only wore earrings as the dress was so detailed, bought from Accessorize. I wore real flowers in my hair created by my local florist Mel, at Alkrington Flowers.”
What did Matthew wear?
“Matthew wore a navy blue suit from Emporio Armani and a tailor-made shirt from Richard Smith, Manchester. Richard is an old work colleague of mine and he’s brilliant. Matthew’s shoes were brown brogues from Jones Bootmaker.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“When I saw Matthew for the first time on our wedding day I just couldn’t stop smiling. I was relaxed and happy.”
Who were your bridesmaids and where were their dresses from?
“My bridesmaids were my five best friends. I couldn’t have picked between my sister Catherine and my soul sister Becky, so both Catherine and Becky were my chief bridesmaids. They all wore cream shift dresses with an embellished neckline from ASOS.”
What was your theme?
“City chic vintage. I love the essence of vintage but prefer things to be new. I’m an art teacher so made pretty much everything for our wedding, but I didn’t want anything to look handmade.”
What was your best buy?
“A Fujifilm Instax camera, which we used as our guestbook. There are so many great pictures and comments!”
What’s your saving tip?
“We were really fortunate to have the help and support of our parents. Saving was really hard, especially when there were so many exciting things happening. I’d recommend making a spreadsheet – it’ll become your best friend. Budget to save the same amount every month.”
