We all love a good proposal! Here, Sophisticated Weddings share three of their clients’ romantic stories…
Lucy and Craig
“There is a little town in North Wales which is very close to my heart called Abersoch. I spent every summer and school holiday there growing up with my sister and cousins as my Nanny and Grandad had a chalet. Our parents would come and go due to work and Nanny and Grandad would take the parental reigns. By the time I met Craig, they had sadly passed away and we had scattered their ashes on Abersoch beach where I had spent so much time as a child. I felt very sad Craig never met them. He took me to Abersoch last June for a weekend away and when we arrived, he asked if I wanted to go for a walk along the beach. There was no one else on the beach that evening and as we walked I reminisced. After a little while Craig, getting down on one knee asked me if I wanted to make a new memory and asked me to marry him! It was completely perfect and I remember turning out to sea and shouting ‘Nanny and Grandad, I’m getting married!!'”

Caroline and Stuart’s story
“Our favourite movie when we first started dating was Noting Hill. Stuart and I also loved visiting Edinburgh and it soon became a city close to our hearts. For six years now we always celebrate my niece’s birthday with an overnight stay in Edinburgh (23rd – 24th Dec) but in 2010 Christmas Eve morning Stuart asked me to take a short walk to the private gated park (that only residents have keys.) He then re-inacted a scene from the movie Notting hill (jumping over the gated fence!!!) We then walked through the park and decided to have a seat on a bench, just like the film. Stuart produced a bottle of champagne and went down on one knee to the music playing in the back ground (Bruno Mars’ I think I wanna marry you)
Behind the scenes he had taken my parents out for dinner and then to the ring shop and asked my dad for his daughter’s hands in marriage.”

Jackie and Mike’s story
We started dating long distance between Austin, TX and New York City. Our first date consisted of hours in Central Park, which made the park a very special place for us. Fast forward two years, we both live in Austin and constantly reminisce of our adventures together while in NYC. I finally have “the ring”, but need an unforgettable experience bundled with a surprise to really seal the deal.
I need this to be memorable, so I hire “I Heart NYC” photography to guide us through the park and take professional pictures while we stroll through the park. We start at Shakespeare’s Garden, then to Belvedere Castle, through The Ramble, and finally to Bow Bridge. This is the perfect spot to propose; the romantic bridge, snow on the ground, city skyline as our backdrop.
After a deep kiss and long embrace, I’m on one knee proposing. Her response, “I thought you were going to propose at the Jet Blue terminal in JFK [airport!]” After a few seconds, which felt like an eternity, I say, “Jack, you haven’t said yes yet.” She says yes, the ring is immaculate on her hand, and the whole experience is professionally captured for years and generations to come. We continue through the park and wrap up the engagement tour at Bethesda Fountain. I can’t think of a better way to propose and would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Our adventures will continue and we remain focused on our destination wedding in Sorrento, Italy. Our story to be continued…”
