A combination of chic pastel shades made this day so pretty. Sophie tells her story…
How did Joe propose?
Joe knew the Salutation Gardens in Sandwich were important to me, as they reminded me of my Grandpa, so he booked us to stay at the Salutation on our anniversary. We took a walk around the gardens, then all of sudden he asked me to wait by some trees and disappeared! Then out of nowhere my special song started playing. He reappeared, took my hand and walked me through the trees. There in front of me were lanterns lit in a circle and a baby trampoline wrapped with flowers. He sat me down and proposed! It was magical. Little did I know he had got my best friend, and owner of the Salutation (Dom from Gogglebox!), to help him put it together the day before.”
What dress did you wear?
“My dress was tricky, as I knew exactly the style I wanted, but had no idea where to get it from. Eventually I found Tilly by Jenny Packham, which was perfect and extra special because our daughter is called Matilda and we call her Tilly. I bought it from Teokath of London in their Canterbury shop.”
And the accessories?
“I wore patient blue shoes from Debenhams, a bracelet from notonthehighstreet.com, and my headband was borrowed from a friend.”
What did Joe wear?
“He wore a Ted Baker suit in dark blue tweed, with burgundy boots.”
How did you feel when you saw him up the aisle?
“So many emotions! I think I ruined all the photos of that moment because I just cried!”
Who were your bridesmaids and what dresses did they wear?
“My maid of honour was my best friend, and my bridesmaids were two very close friends, my sister and Joe’s sister. My eldest daughter was the flowergirl and ring bearer. The bridesmaids’ dresses were bought from Coast and the flowergirl design was from Monsoon.”
What was the highlight of your day?
“The first dance with my eldest daughter and my husband. It was idyllic, like it was just us in the room.”
What’s your saving tip?
“Grow your own wedding flowers! This way you’ll just pay for seeds and you can pick the greenery. We planted ours in spring in lots of different gardens belonging to people from our village, then asked everyone to come together and pick them.”
